Having ordered Pipex ADSL yesterday I'm looking at going wireless as I took the option to get free setup and free 3rd month rental and I supply my own kit.

Anyone got a wireless Lan at home?, any performance or problems experience would be useful.

Or should I stick to a 4 port ADSL router?

Using a 22mbp DLink Wireless cable router. 1 pc upstairs, 1 pc in dining room. Router is behind TV in Lounge.

No issues with performance whatsoever, only problem is that the firmware can only be updated via cable connection, and i aint got one.:(

I have been running a WiFi LAN at home for just over a year. I've had no problems at all, but connected to an ISDN router rather than ADSL.

I can surf in the bath, in the back garden, in the garage etc. :D

Cheers

I have one, using a Draytec V2200We. PC downstairs and one upstairs. Works flawlessly. Will soon be adding a laptop so can sit in the garden and surf Scoobynet:).

Got it from Wirelessnets, who are very helpful in setting stuff up as well if you need it.

Got Linksys BEFW144S4 and its brill, using it with NTL and had no problems except for the laptop wireless card, which loses signal when the laptop gets really hot (after about an hour). But my PC is fine all the time I get absolutley no signal problems. Would well recommend it!

I've got a netgear FR114P wireless router with PCMCIA wireless in laptop, wireless PCI card in my missus' PC and direct cable connection on mine.

Works fine, no issues, and no intrusions picked up on local zone alarms anymore, so obviously the Firewall is working quite well :)

Setup was relatively easy. Got the router and PCMCIA card as a package, and the extra wireless card separately. Router is connected to the 600Kb NTL broadband and works with no probs on all machines :)

Just ordered the new Wirless-G Linksys Router

54 meg wireless woo hoo

MartinM 12 March 2003 01:54 PM

Netgear 114 for me too. No probs:D

JackClark 12 March 2003 04:55 PM

Linksys setup here. Works fine for me and anyone else walking or driving by.

AndyC_772 12 March 2003 05:58 PM

I have a Linksys WAP11 (from EBuyer) plugged into my ADSL router, and a Dell TrueMobile 1150 mini-PCI card in my laptop. The setup works fine - it was a doddle to set up and enable 128-bit WEP encryption. I can even surf from the lounge, two floors down from the access point, and get a signal it describes as 'good'.

Wish I'd taken the plunge a year ago now...

Got a DLink 714P+ from www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk. It's basically the 604+ but with a print server. Works well -- and despite what the broadbandbuyer site says it works with ordinary printers (Okipage 14ex in my case), not just Postscript.

Seem to be getting interference when a DECT phone is in use though, which is odd as DECT is 1.9GHz

RoadrunnerV2 13 March 2003 06:18 PM

Anyone who wants some advise/ lastest info on wireless then don't hesitate to email me giles@broadbandbuyer.co.uk.

BTW - If anyone is thinking on 54Mbps (802.11g) wireless for ADSL then definately contact me cos you might fall into some unexpected traps :)

yep! DSL connected to a Netgear FM114P wireless router hard wired to th GFs PC and I can connect via wireless with my laptop from anywhere in the house or upto 100m from the base station.

STI MAN 13 March 2003 10:24 PM

I'm using a 3Com 2000 series Base unit, hanging of a DSL router.

The wireless reception is excellent througout the house. 3 floors and lots of 'real' brick, with the base station roughly in the middle of the 2nd floor.

:)
