do the jap imports have a cat fitted?

siwrx 04 March 2003 12:13 AM

they do indeed

jonny gav 04 March 2003 08:47 AM

yep, its in the downpipe and well worth removing too ;)

Andy McCord 04 March 2003 10:14 AM

theres one in the centre tooooooooooooooo

Charlie H 04 March 2003 10:16 AM

The one in the centre might just be a resonator NOT a cat. I thought mine was a centre cat til I removed it and found it was just straight through :)

StickyMicky 04 March 2003 05:34 PM

do imports have to have a cat in the country?
like is there a loophole in the law which says "u can take it out micky my son and make it faster" or sumthing to that effect?

Aye well it says carry out a CAT test - which thankfully means, don't actually check if the CAT is present, but check the emissions against certain targets.

I've heard of people passing MOTs with no CATs, and some without having got the zorst and engine hot ! But I think these examples are relatively rare....

I had a 93WRX without 'centre cat' or resonator or whatever, and always passed with the downpipe CAT alone. Nice..

I now have a 95WRX, and it looks as though the emissions might be slightly different / more stringent for those !

Cheers
Alex

Or maybe not..it might still have the same emissions targets if it's NOT in the database..

magnet 05 March 2003 09:24 AM

anyone got the database?

Is a UK legacy Turbo listed?
