I'm currently in the process of saving up for a scoob and hoping to get one for around 6k, But im becoming more tempted by the minute by the coupe 20v turbo.

if anyone here has driven a coupe 20v turbo, Could you point out some lows and high's on each car etc, And also would a standard scoob beat a 20vt in performance etc.

A Scoob will beat the Fiat in most areas apart from looks ;)

Try and test drive each. The scoob will have you grinning from ear to ear, the fiat wants street cred, the scoob commands it.:D

The 20v turbo is very quick on the motorway.

I do agree burr on that.

Its not the top end you want, its the sh!t where did the first 3 gears go acceleration.

You come to a scooby site asking for advice on which car to choose. I'm no Einstein but I guess we can make a conjecture on which car would be chosen by us. :D

katana: Sure just wanted to hear from people that have driven impreza's "obviosly you chap's" and maybe driven 20vt's aswell, So i could maybe weigh up some pros & con's of each car, Cos making the final decision soon is gonna be really hard for me to choose.

Prolly will end up with a impreza, but the looks of the coupe are fooking lovely :).

I hear the clutch change on the fiat is expensive. engine out job apparentely, so you better take that into account

kenny: my mondeo is the same, big job when it comes to changing the clutch.

i have a 2.0 glx, 0-60 in 9.2 and 130 + not bad for a big old mini cab :), just aint floating my boat, need something more crazy.

but at least when i beat a saxo vtr, they go home and put it in autotrader, cos they got beat by a mondeo.

When I bought my Scooby it was a toss up between that and the fiat. I drove both- preferred the 4WD chassis of the Impreza.

Fiat was fearsomely fast from 60-100+ though- if it was dry I;m pretty sure one would leave a UK scoob for dead on say a motorway slip road. The cambelt change is £1000 for the Fiat though (60,000 I think)so you see a lot for sale just below this figure!

I no bugger all about the fiat so all just guesss work but even thou u mention sum big bills with it has no1 dared mentionning the vast running costs of the scoob?
I just payed £800 for a clutch (thou it is much better oh baby:D) got me 90k servive another £700 or so looming round the corner & doesa fiat need 6 monthly service? tyres aint cheap ;) MODS r too tempting & thus end up setting yer bank balance on a mission 2 dissappear :eek: lol. Insurance is a bit of a stnger naturally :p & worst of all the facial surgery bills 4 trying 2 return my face 2 a normal look rather than HUGE cheesy grin mode from driving the scoob is just getting silly http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-039.gif Seeriously thou the scoob is rediculous amounts of fun & u will b hard pushed 2 find a better performance & still damn good looking car in the classic style scoob bracket u will b looking at!
If u can afford 2 run it without a problem u will not regret the scooby IMO

Fiats are OK but such a powerfull car being front wheel drive isnt such a good idea. My best friend had the LTD edition with 6-speed box and brembo brakes which was very nice and quick. Now, comparing it to my old sti 6 type r v-ltd i left him for dust in every way and he wasnt pleased to say the least as he paid a lot more for his compared to what i paid for mine in japan. Lookswise it was a nice car to look but in the handling dwpt it was rubbish. The story doesnt end here though, in the 3 years he had it he whent through 2 engines. YES the reliabilty of the FIAT 20VT is worse than the STI. Before he sold it we stuck on the detcans and i can say it was detting like a scoob being run on 91RON fuel even though it was meant to run 95RON. THe choice is obvious. FIAT Coupe is nice but the name says it all Fix It Again Tommorow.

I tried a 20VT when I was getting a little sick of waiting for my 2nd Impreza Turbo (took 11 months to arrive in '96).

I hated it - dreadful driving position. My arms aren't long enough to let my knuckles trail on the floor as I walk, which's about the length I needed to reach the steering wheel. I felt so uncomfortable.

Handling was strange I thought, but grip strong. Traction was poor - it was hard to get the power down in 1st or 2nd gears. Whilst still a new(ish) car, the interior was in poor condition - rattles everywhere. Nice looking though.

I went to my local Fiat/Alfa dealer when looking for my first scoob. Again 12 month waiting list for the scoob so went to check out stuff I could get the next day. Try the Alfa GTV and was way to small inside but sounded great. The Fiat had the looks and style and was quick but didnt do it for me. Dont know why as I really wanted one and was tempted with the bright yellow job. The garage came up with a great deal but the Subaru salesman who had become like a brother to me, as I camped out at his dealership :D came through and got me a cancelled scoob in 2 months (top bloke).

I considered the same vehicles when I was looking to get my scooby. I was looking to spend about £13k which allowed me to get an MY99 and mods to about 275bhp. My car would now destroy a 20VT from 0-60 and would match or beat one from 60-100. This is in all weathers and its faster round the corners and has 4 doors, etc, etc. But, there is no denying the 20VT is a fooking quick car and makes a brilliant motorway/a-road beast.

The problem as I see it for you is that you're looking to spend about £6k. That won't get you the best of scoobys but it will still get you a very useful fiat. I suppose it depends on what you will mainly use the car for but in that price range I'd give the fiat some serious consideration :)

a £6000 fiat coupe in my opinion wont be too reliable, my mate works for fiat and they get a lot in for repairs all the time. scooby gets my vote.

Have driven the fiat a few times.
They are a road weapon.
NOT as good point to point as a scooby, but if you are coming up from a hot hatch it will feel a lot more familiar to you.
Raced a scoob in the fiat and there really isn't much in it.

Your choice. The fiat IS expensive to fix and service.
