Went in today and there's some pretty good offers....

Californication......£8.99

Amongst others....quite a good selection from £5.99 to £8.99.

I only pay £10 for brand new releases - HMV/Virgin etc are rip off merchants...

Yeah. How do HMV and that bunch stay in business when Tesco and Sainsbury sell them for £9.99 from release day?

and CD WOW do thenm for £8.99 !!!!

I would never pay more than £10 for a CD, the last one I bought was Kelly Rowland for Hollie's birthday (today) which I got at Sainsburys. Would normally use CD WOW as I think they are great!

I dont want to stay in a supermarket a second longer than i have to,have never bought a CD there.

I assume you stick to mainstream music then. Tesco, CD WOW etc don't tend to sell much beyond Chart stuff. I'd be lost without a mix of HMV and small specialist shops.

Um, yep.

Download all your music in Digital format from a peer to peer sharing network such as WinMx and burn it all to CD. The only music worth buying comes on VINYL- always has - always will. Its just better quality and so much more for your cash. Some Vinyl LP sleeves I have qualify as art- all the CD's look like sh1te.

No the wonder you think CDs sound crap.

Whilst I agree Vinyl sounds superior, for most people CDs sound better. The general public's opinion of Vinyl was clouded by the dreadful Midi Systems from the '80s, with terrible "record decks". Most wouldn't dream of springing £250 for something like a Rega P 2 etc - they want the whole system for that kind of dosh! When you tell them the cost of the LP12/Ekos/Arkiv that you own (like me), they think you're mad.

You need to be pretty serious about music, and spend a decent amount of money on kit, before the sound quality of Vinyl shows through.

I got the first two Nickelback albums for £4.99 and £6.99 - quite chuffed with that.

Tower closed not too long again and thats where I always went, however HMV have a good range of rock/metal music that I occasionally look for. However its specialists that offer exactly what I need - bummer is just search time and post time - but hey, thats why they are specialists.

I just dont like the way supermarkets sell only the most popular stuff at discount,okay if you want chart CD's but they dont exactly expand the variety of music on offer.

You're right, and it's making it harder for good new bands to get signed by the Labels. If all people care about is Top 30 drivel, then that's okay, but some of us want more than that.

I think it's more about giving people what they want at the right price. Supermarkets have huge buying power which in turn means that the prices are lower.

So, in principle, I should pay anything up to £17 for a CD out of "principle"? I don't think so.

Anyway, I don't buy that much music, perhaps I am getting old...... But when I was really into the "madchester" scene a few :rolleyes: years back, I used to order my 12"s from WHSmith.

At least I am buying the real thing. If you listen to the music industry, it's the fakes which is ruining it, not Sainsburys selling a CD at what most would see at a reasonable price.

I am now buying CDs at a lower price than the first CD I ever bought was when I was 15. That was over half my life ago!!

I agree that counterfeiting and Napster style downloading is doing damage, but generally it's hurting the big name artists and the Labels. I'm talking about great new bands, looking for deals and if they're lucky enough to get one, sales of albums. Supermarkets don't want to know about them.

What people fail to realise is that the shops dont make much profit on cds, its the distributors/record companies that make the money.
For example if a shop purchased, say a beatles cd it would cost them at least £10.00, you can hardly blame them for putting their mark up on.
Selling a new chart cd for £10.00 cuts their profits to the bone.
