Folks,
My brother is having his empeg fitted to his new sti8... however there is a problem. The unit will not fit through the aperture... the subaru silver dash surround is too small. Other head units tend to have a plastic clip on surround that can be left off, and hence would fit through the aperture. We have the 1din blank that turns the 2din into a 1 din for the head unit and a small storage area. Anyone else had similar problems? is it just a matter of filing down the silver subaru dash surround? This will probably look really bad :( Any ideas? Cheers, Richie. |
Richie,
I guess the answer "give the empeg to me" doesn't really help, does it? 'bout time to resurrect the PSU thread for a final call? Cheers, Nick. |
If the EMPEG's got the tuner module , I will do an straight swap for a brand new silver DIN-sized HD/tuner that has a removable surround and a removable HD with USB2.0 connectivity.
I'm starting a museum of car mp3 devices :) Note to Chiark: is this sufficiently plugless for you? [Edited by 12LEE - 2/28/2003 6:14:58 PM] |
LOL, yeah, that'll do :D
The Empeg is a fantastic bit of kit built by hackers in the original sense of the word. |
I have a Riocar (Empeg) and a Nakamichi MB-75 fitted in my STi7. The fitter said it was a very tight fit with the Riocar on top of the MB-75 and he had to file the aperture. Once the Riocar is in you do not notice this at all.
Hope this helps. |
I had this problem with a Pioneer unit because the head unit front surround wasn't removable. I sent it back for a Blaupunkt DAB unit - sorry no help

Cheers for the info peeps. Better get a new set of files then... just hope it doesnt turn out to be a mess.
also.. I cant even pry the empeg from my brothers hands... perhaps i'll have to put a pc in the boot.... hmmm :D Richie. |
Here we go peeps, one happy chappy :D Sorry you guys missed out on the sale of my Empeg ;)
Two hours of drillin', trimmin', and it fits like a glove. Could have gone 2mm higher but its not worth the trouble. You can see from the piccies that the cage is approx 1 cms wider+higher than a 1din unit. The lower din is the SECS from here just incase you were wondering :D http://upload.turbosport.co.uk/getpi...5015540310.jpg http://upload.turbosport.co.uk/getpi...5015270499.jpg http://upload.turbosport.co.uk/getpi...5015581395.jpg ~Jules |
Jules,
Fan-bloody-tastic :D - like that setup a lot! Cheers, Nick. |
