How tight are the immigration rules to get into Canada?
I'm thinking of going for a job out there, but even if I could convince my Mrs, not sure if they'd want me with 2 school age kids, having obviously paid $0.00 tax to the Canadian Govt. Anyone done this recently or know what the pitfalls are? I doubt the wage would be enough to put the kids through private schools over there anyway. Could also go for as similar job in Cincinatti, though doubt that's a starter due to the tougher immigration rules / green card etc. This got me thinking - if a 38 year old (I'm not there yet!) moved out of the UK, what would happen to all the taxes and NIC he'd have paid for 20 odd years? Obviously part of the taxes he'd paid would go towards services he would be using in later life- but if he'd buggered off to Canada, he wouldn't be in the UK to benefit from the dosh. Do the UK Govt. transfer funds to the new country of residence to make up for this (pro-rata for what you would have paid in tax that you hadn't benefited from - if you see what I mean). I do get the feeling that I am living in a dreamworld on this and that they transfer FA... Sorry for the waffle, but would I have a chance of getting in with 2 little uns? |

I passed - suppose that's the first small hurdle over!
