i have bought 2 amps from a mate, 1 is rockford fosgate and not sure on the other one, it is a purple metallic colour.

i have not used them yet as he didnt no wot the power outputs were and i dont wana run too much through speakers and watch em BLOW

so wot am i asking? is there anyway i can test the amps for the power?

You will be able to hear speakers in distress (a clack due to speakers hitting endstops is the biggest giveaway) but your ears should be able to tell you when something's wrong.

Also, bear in mind that speaker ratings are hopelessly optimistic. If you put 100w into a 100w speaker that wasn't in its ideal box, take cover: you will fry it. It will be perfectly obvious that you're causing it no small amount of pain.

Your RF amp should have a "birth certificate" which shows its power output.

The purple one sound "Cheap " 1111110000000000000000 watts kung fu jobs.

As Chiark said a lot can be told from your ears. Look at the gain controls on the RF amp if its well turned up maybe its been hammered.
