Sony DRU-500A is the best currently supporting both formats - DVD-R and DVD+R. However, microsoft just went to the DVD+R camp so that camp looks favourite to prevail and it best for video imaging anyway.
Philips do a good DVD+R with CD-R built into it also. Would recommend that for video copying as its cheaper but makes you wait 3mins more per CD than the Sony. Hate to use Tom's as an example but magazines etc back up the Sony being king and Philips making good drives, you might wait to see philips update their CD and DVD writer combo drive to a higher spec, shouldnt be long and bear in mind that the discs are not available for fasting writing currently for DVDs. http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/20030207/index.html |
i thought the new NEC writer was dual format and it was not due for release until the end of this month. have NEC as P1 says gone down the road of the big boys and made this a +R drive only
