Hi, have just ordered some Converse baseball boots from the states (USA) for my step daughter (age 7), she thinks she's Avril lavigne at the mo.

have ordered them from the states as there doesnt seem to be anywhere in the UK that sells them under size 3.

anyway the boots were $22 and the UPS delivery is $32 but have just been informed that the delivery man will be hit for import tax which we will have to pay.

Does any1 in the know have any idea wot sort of import tax we will be looking at paying?

Think you're below (can't remember the threshold - £25 ?) If above you'll pay vat at 17.5% of the goods value.

See http://www.hmce.gov.uk/public/shopping/shopping.htm
Particularly Notice 143.

Basically over £18 is liable for any or all of import duty, VAT and Excise duty. (Gifts up to £36).
Think you're safe with Excise duty :D
Import duty varies depending on the item, normally in the range 0 to 7%.
Tax and duty are calculated on the TOTAL including shipping, plus the carrier will charge you for collecting the tax/duty.

Hope you got the shoe size right :D

If you mean the canvas Converse boots then I've found a shop in Brighton that sells them. I still wear them (how 80's?!
:D) although finding a shop that sells them now is hard work (only found this place by accident while I was down there).
