Just thought I would let you know that I am now 100% ready for Donington. I took the car over to Ahmed yesterday (hence why no postings from me) for him to remap the top end to suit the 97RON octane. This was because after the decrease in octane from 98 to 97 at the end of last year, I had to have the ignition retarded to stop it from detting. However, the way this was done at the time was with the retard plug beside the ECU which lopped 3° off across the board (as Ahmed was not available at the time). Obviously this was only a "quick fix" as it made the engine feel really flat off boost. With this is mind I had Ahmed plug in his lap top and we went for some scary rides around Romford, with me going flat out in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and on occasion 5th in the damp (read sideways) with some horrendous cross-winds! Ahmed just sat there calmly with his lap top (plugged in as an emulator with all the information from the chip stored in this to be adjusted as and where necessary), tapping away with his det cans on (looking like a fighter pilot) to change the top end map. I was more scared than he was and was finally glad when he called it a wrap! The full ignition timing was restored and this livened the car back up at the bottom end, with the top end det problem cured by increasing the fuelling above 6600 revs.

This means the car is again fully mapped to suit the new fuel ratings and I won't have to worry about any det problems when giving it the large one on the track (be carefull all you STi owners)....

I was also discussing the new mods for later in the year to get some more power. The hardware is almost sorted (turbo specs will be arriving from the states next week) and all I need to do is save up some hard earned to get the air injectors (for accurate boost control and reduction in lag), WRC plenum (eight injectors), turbo (roller-bearing type to reduce lag) and T6 management (has more processing power per cylinder than my car has in TOTAL) and then cook for three hours on an engine dynometer to see what we end up with....

It's leather so will wipe off easily anyway - it's just the runny ones that get in the perforations that cause the problems...
