Did anyone else see the impreza enthusiast building his dream house from a pile of stones, amazing! Looked like a great place, with a long private track to play on.

I hope it's finished soon

Not bad though the house worth £250K and only spending £75K.
I think the question is, would an Impreza make it up that track in winter! It would seem not from what Kevin McCloud (presenter) was saying, the guy's other half has wrote it off!
Would be a lovely place to live in the Summer though.

Yep, sounds like she crashed it!

It would appear that there were 3 different subarus in the program, about 2 seconds of the blue impreza, plus an old estate and a pickup, makes me think more and more about self building!

Look out for next week's program - the house featured is that of Rupert Upton, scoob enthusiast and IWOC/I-Chat member. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Fantastic effort being made by everyone to get that house complete. I missed some of it, and obviously the Impreza - But loved listening to the estate being driven up the hill.

I really like that program.

Must be getting old. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

Didn't Rupert sell his scoob to help fund his project ?

rupertu 08 August 2001 01:02 PM

No, he sold his 6 month old STiV (lost less than a grand, would have lost ten by now) and bought a UK spec IT from Holland for £16.5K, allowing him to put the remaining nine into the house.

PS. I don't recall them filming my car at all unfortunately......hope not, you could grow spuds on the outside of it!

Rupert,

You have a lovely home, but I really don't know how you put up with all the grief!

I guess no end of troubles matter when you're realising a dream!

Well done, and hope you have the garden landscaped soon!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Rupert your home is truly stunning and I'm most jealous http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Trouble is I quite like the idea of a self build myself.....

Rupert,

Have to agree, the house looked great. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Does your wife still want to move again? I would love to wake up every morning with that stunning view.

Hi Rupert,
Loved the house last night.
I have been watching all the series and forgive my naiviety or ignorance, but how does the building industry get away with such casual quotes for work and then be able to up it by quite a margin as they come across what they call unforseen evnets or situations?
When I do my quotes for my line of business (water supply systems) I have good benchmark figures and then some on top for "eventualities".
What I have seen on the series appears to be an open cheque book if the estiamtes at planning stage are "not quite right".
Seems the self builders have it tough unless they have a decent project manager who can keep on top of things.

Yep, home looked lovely, really getting me thinking about building a small house myself...

Again it looks like every home build ever runs over budget/time and every builder takes longer than they planned! A shame really, I'm sure barretts etc don't let there builders run out of schedule/cost (not that I want one of their houses!)

Anyway I will be doing my research and if the house market holds up maybe start something in the next couple of years!

Has Kevin Mcloud Still got that nice Cherry Red TVR Cerbra?

It was in the last series a lot.

The Place in the Brecons was fantastic and the chap was so cool about the issues he faced.

Nice One last week as well, the view is fantastic.
