I used to have a Rat untill he died in Jan. 2.5 yr old Agouti. Still miss his company and attention.

They make great pets / friends and he always made a fuss of you. He loved to sit and groom you and be groomed.

Ratty provided us with a huge amount of laughter. Legging it across the Sofa with my Dads Apple, Hot Cross Bun, Cream Cake, Sarnie, Savaloy, Spud and practically anything else that he could carry and eat.

R.I.P Ratty.

I think Tiggs did. Though it could of course have been a wind-up.

Tiggs 21 February 2003 02:51 PM

My big ginger tom cat Bungle has bought me home a couple of rats to look after for him. Luckily he brings them home after he is bored of playing with them, i.e when they stop moving.....

Was still a shock to look under the bed one Saturday morning and see a massive dead rat lying there. Sick thing is it had been there all night!

Tiggs 21 February 2003 03:01 PM

si,

ok....im no expert but:

hamster- small stupid animals that bite you

rat- larger, happy animal that will trot around on the desk while you work, come to you for food, like a mini dog (but more stupid than most dogs...dont belive the hype- rats are no stunt animal as some owners would have you belive)

T

oh...and rats STINK like the smell of evil before it washes!

dsmith 21 February 2003 03:08 PM

trot around on the desk while you work
Presumably this is 2nd hand info ;) or do you mean "trot around on the desk while you bid at the very last second on e-bay and surf S'Net"

:D ;)

DrEvil 21 February 2003 04:21 PM

Tiggs - they probably stink because they get washed as often as old men like you wash! ;)

Like with any pet, you get stupid ones and clever ones.. we've got one of each. Bob is quite clever and Vic is stoopid!

They need cleaning out each week and washing with shampoo (special stuff from a pet shop) on a weekly basis.

Also if they are male, once they are fully grown, about 7-8 months old, they need there nads removed - in part reduces any smell from them and quietens them down - ie. they fight each other otherwise.

As Sith said, they make great pets, you just need to look after them and give them regular attention.

Rgds, Alex

Tiggs 21 February 2003 05:55 PM

oh they get washed alright! if they arent carefull i'll use the Hotpoint!

DrEvil 21 February 2003 08:02 PM

Tiggs - LOL :D

GarnetFox 21 February 2003 10:07 PM

Ah excellent! :)

Bathing rats is easier said than done! My two hate the bath and shower but love me spraying them with a water bottle.:)

I have 2 does, an Agouti Irish and a Pearl. The Agouti is very cuddly but the Pearl is very independent and just likes the occasional stroke before she runs off to explore something else.

Looking to get a couple of dumbos in the summer too, I got mine from a great breeder in Weston-super-Mare called Estelle Sandford. Where abouts in the UK are you BuRR?

My twosome:
