Hello

I have a couple of domains that I wish to host on my (home) computer. The easiest way to do this is to have virtual servers, each of which respond to a different www address.

However, it appears that XP Professional doesn't support this? Is that true? Does anyone know how I can configure it?

I really don't want to use APACHE...

Thanks for your help.

Steve.

Whether a webserver supports name-based virtual hosting or not has nothing to do with the underlying operating system actually, and IIS _does_ support vhosts. HTTP 1.1 clients send a Host: header along with the request and your webserver parses that. More fool you if you wont use Apache, it's infinitely superior in every way :)

I belive IE 3.x and below and netscape 3 and below do not support it.

IIS in XP Professional seems to be restricted in that it wont let me set up another Virtual server.

Apache is fine, I use it on Solaris. I just want to use FP extensions and ASP, hence the need for IIS.

Christian, only HTTP 1.1 clients, those browsers don't support 1.1.

boxst, this of any use?

Edited to say I missed your ASP requirement :)

IIS does support virtual domains but the version that comes with 2000 professional or XP is restricted to only one domain. The cersions that comes with server or .net does support virtual domains

Thanks for the replies.

SteveCotten: Well, if I have to I can use Chillisoft ASP with Apache....

Richard: Is there anyway of re-enabling it that you know of? I searched the web and couldn't find one.

From memory, don't you use a 'host header' setting within the web site setup?

You need to be running windows 2K server or advanced server - and then you get virtual hosts...

Use apache or another...
