I'm planning on buying a laptop, but they all seem to have DVD drives that are semi-fixed - you can change region 3 times then they lock.
As I have both region 1 & 2 disks I want a multi region DVD. As it sounds like a firmware issue, is there a way around this ? Looking at a Dell, but would consider anything I could make multi region. |
dvdgenie software will switch between regions for most drives, although some drives need a firmware hack to work.

Thanks - any idea how I find out if a drive needs a firmware hack and if so how I go about it ?
Just been looking at a very nice Sony too so the decision on what to buy may come down this. |
Hi Mate,
Check out this site, they have all the info you require. Including replacement firmware. http://forum.firmware-flash.com/portal.php |
Thanks !
From the quick look I had, it seems that you can modify pretty much any drive - i just need to dind out exactly what drive the pc has. Al |
do a search on google (say) for FOSI, download PowerDVD 4, this will play any region and doesnt limit region swaps, just knocks it out of the equation. :)
if doing this at work, the site has PORN banners. :( careful. |
