Hi chaps, i just received my new (well, second hand) MY99 bumper from Glenburgie and i have a question... ;)

Once sprayed etc i plan to fit it myself. My question is how easy is it to swap the bumpers? I've heard rumours about the hangers being different but the new bumper still fits the old hanger?

How do i go about removing the present (MY98) bumper? I also have to swap over my PIAA's which i found out the other day are bolted though the bumper - i.e. removing the three bolts on the bracket doesn't allow the lamp to be removed. :rolleyes: :(

Now do i go about removing the old and re-fitting the new bumper?

There are four bolts that hold the beam on in the engine bay, a couple of screws underneath (may need heating:eek:) and one either side inside the wheel arch linings

You'll need something to plug the headlamp jet pipe and probably wise taking out the headlamps / foglamps before you start just to give a bit more room to manouvere;)

I'm certainly no expert but I have had the bumper off mine before so could offer a hand if required sometime, as you are in Aberdeen;)

Where are the four bolts in the engine bay and beneath situated? I'm not in any hurry to fit it but seeing as it'll cost me less than £40 to have sprayed i haven't really got any excuse not too...

Just need some of those wedges and i'm ready to go. :)

Do you need to lose the headlamp washers? Can't you carefully drill, and file the mounting points in the new bumper?

The bumper was *cough* £150.... But i know the guys little brother very well and i built his website a couple of months ago too so i get a bit of a discount.

I'm unsure about drilling the bumper. It's a dilemma tbh, i prefer the smoother lines of the new bumper BUT the headlamp washers have been very handy of late due to the road conditions and due to the fact i do alot of motorway miles. I will probably leave as is for the time being, i can always fit them later so yes, it is an option. :)

Oh yeah, does anyone have any spare orange wedges?

I have just done the same as this although I didnt have headlight washers in the first place. :)

The change was as everyone has said except:

I broke quite a few of the wheel arch liner clips getting them out so buy 5/6 spares before you start.

The number plate hanger on the old bumper was bolted on with Torx bolts that has a raised post in the middle of the hole. So you need the Torx heads with the hole in the middle to undo them. or grind them off like I did :D

Lastly, the rear sides of the bumper skin are held on by a metal bracket with captive nuts in. Although the captive nuts are in the same place on the earlier bumper ones they actually fit to the bumper in a slightly different way.
I used a self tapper in the top fitting and a small L spared bracket secured to the bumper using the redundant hole in the wheel arch lip if the bumper.

You'll see when you get there so have some self tappers or rivets, tin snips, some painted metal strips (20mm x 60mm) and a small vice ready.

Also, as well as the orange wedges (which I am still looking for :eek: , you will also require the later front innner arch liners if you want the newer brake ducts to line up.
