Looking for something with the same functionality as Winpopup but that will allow us to log actions/messages.
Reason is that we have a legacy dos program that runs in the foreground & when its being used, Outlook email doesn't notify the user of new message. Winpopup does! When I say notify, I mean switch from the dos app to Winpopup. Outlook won't do it if the user is actually *doing* something in the dos app, whereas Winpopup just don't give $hit & barges in with its new message bit http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Other ideas welcomed... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif |
What O/S are you using..
if you are on NT you could use NET SEND.. at a command prompt type net send /? Be carefull if in a domain not to specify domain nameusername as you will send to every pc that is a member / or connected to the domain.. David |
Mainly Win98 with a couple of W95.
Novell Broadcast considered but doesn't log either http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif |
Should be something in this list to fit the bill...

David - sound like you've inadvertantly Net sended to everyone in your company at some point then? What was it "Photocopier room now bitch!"

PTMW,
not sure what you mean by "log", are you talking about writing an entry to some log file, or posting a message to the server...? Either way, Winpopup works because it is badly behaved. No application is allowed to behave this way in windows2000, but they can be written to do it in 95/98/nt4. So, the question is, what do you want the app to do, exactly? KF. |
I wish the app to come right to the front - immediately appear (like Winpup) over the dos session if someone is *active* on the dos sesh. Also need the app to record to a txt file local or server, that it sent a message to a remote user & also for the remote users action to be recorded (if responded to & how) - audit trail of lan messages...

OK, apologies if that was a stupid question http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
I don't know of any applications that would do exactly what you require. Sorry. There are plenty that do logging, but none that I know of that monitor a users response. KF. |
David, I've experienced the embarrasment of the old net send accross a 2000+ user Domain http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

is the OS that is sending the message nt???
cos you could use logevnt, or logevent which can be used to write into the event log... or you could use some sort of script to do it... Could probably write something in vb... Let me know if you dont get anywhere and I will knock you something up... Nice blond bird? David |
It is just a mailslot, so it should be easy to write an app...
Good luck KF. |
