Ok so I'm being really thick now. I've bought a Momo gear stick top and have been able to unscrew the old gear stick top but it appears to be stuck onto the gaiter. I've tugged and pulled at the gaiter near the base but the damn thing doesn't want to come out so I can see what's holding the gear stick knob onto it.

Can anyone help? Car is a P1 but I guess it's the same as an MY00 or simular.

i just pulled mine off - there is quite a big lip on the gear stick that it needs to "pop" over then thats it.

I think there might be a key so it comes off easier one way round but I would not worry about that (i didn't!) :)

One big pull, didn't look like it wanted to come off. Like you said, there is a notch to guide it out but I just yanked! :D :D :D
