Forgotten my old password so just created a new account, don't post here much, sorry about that, anyway on with the problem.

My engine let go at the weekend, nice hole in my block. I concerned about taking it back to where it was built.

I need to find another v.good engine builder who is au-fait with VW engines to a degree. Basic repair needed is
1. Knife edge the crank
2. lighten and balance bottom end (obviously it needs a new one)
3. Source forged pistons and alloy rods and fit em.
4. The need to be able to map luminition engine management system, and be ok with Jenvy throttle bodies.

I need someone good, no idiot, preferably with Motorsport pedigree.

Recommendations desperately needed. I don't really want to take it back where it was built (long story).

Knife edging the crank would be a waste of time ( unlesss time is free ), as there is very little to knife edge anyway.
There isnt that much to lighten anyway either. Never heard of Alloy rods for a Subaru, but aftermarket billet steel rods would be a good idea. STI pistons are forged, although there are a few aftermarket suppliers also.
Ive never heard of a Subaru running Lumenition management, let alone using throttle bodies. ( Excluding the latest JUN creation )
I dont think that throttle bodies would be worth the hassle or expense for about 99% of Subaru drivers.

I dont know how is the engine rebuilding stuff going in England but I think the best thing is to do is to change the short block.

Would also agree, that the cheapest option would be just to replace the engine with a second hand unit, unless you are actually seeking a lot more power in the future with other modifications.

As you gathered it's a 2L VW block. I'm coming round to the view that knife-edging cranks is a waste of money, and results in like 1bhp of extra power if that.
I've found a few decent engine builders by posting on other car forums. I'm going to uprate the internals for piece of mind, but they cost a god damn fortune. bhp is likely to be in the 220-240 area (flywheel), depending whether I go bigger valves, what cams etc.
