I've come across a new (to me) program called MailWasher (http://www.mailwasher.net)

It's intersting because it deals with spam when it's still on your ISPs mailserver and gives you the ability to bounce the mail. This will, in time, get your address removed from spam lists. It also does filters & Realtime Black Holing of open relays against the RBL list of your choice.

Once it has dealt with the mail that is in your ISP mailbox it allows you to automatically start your Outlook etc and download the real e-mail.


Very cool and it's freeware :)

Been using it for a while, seems OK but has a wobbly every so often, reporting non-existant mailbox errors, or saying no connection present (cable)

Close Mailwasher before putting PC into hibernate, otherwise it will crash when you wake the PC up again.
