I'm looking for a bbs that's as good as this for boats - some chance me thinks http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

More specifically, I'm interested to know the biggest motor boat I can tow with a big 4x4. Not a Scooby tho http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Cheers

David,

'Biggest' all depends on your definition. What you really need to know is how heavy more than anything.

Most cars have some infomation in their owners manual about how much they can tow. Throw into that the weight of the trailer as well.

Then you have to worry about whether to have a braked trailer or not.

For biggest boat, I would suggest it would be a RIB. I've seen some huge ones being towed by smaller estates (Volvo V40s etc.).

Our river rescue team has a 900ft RIB with about 15 outboards and it gets towed behind a Disco. OK, the numbers might be wrong, but you get the gist http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I have seen 25" sports crusiers being towed by those big Nissan fcuk truck thingies. I wouldn't want to go bigger than that...

Definately get a trailer with brakes http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

BTW - A mate is selling a 25" Draco... very nice... Twin inboards, based in Poole... No trailer though....

I know someone who tows J24s around with a 2.something deisel sierra... Mind you he is quite stupid http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Don't know of any 'motorboat' bbs sites... more into the sort with sails myself...

Thanks guys. The trailer will be braked with 6 pot AP's http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I've looked on all the major 4x4 web sites and only Landrover quote towing weights for the Defender range - 4000kg. Funny they don't quote towing for a Range Rover - can't it tow? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Still looking for a boat bbs tho..

Cheers

David
