I'm fed up of trying to sell my Turbo so I've approached a couple of TVR dealers to part-ex. I need a Cerbera (4 seats) but know little about the pros/cons of the engines - 4.2, 4.5 or Speed Six. I've seen a nice looking Speed Six - are there any major pros/cons between the engine options?

The only advice I would give you...which was given to me by a TVR dealer...do not have a TVR as your sole means of transport

Phil, I've e-mailed you directly

Thanks guys - the TVR is for weekends only.

Image-Doctor, I'm a man of few words ! I flit in and out of this board as I do with a number of other forums which relate to cars I currently own or have owned.

As it happens, I have a good Cerbera Speed six for sale and would offer a generous allowance for a Scooby in p/ex hence my mail to Phil. OK by you ?

Regards, Meridian

So can I assume that in 'real life' there's little difference between the engine options?

Phil,

You might want to try Walldonway in Maidstone (Kent), they are a TVR dealer AND a Subaru dealer and so might give you a good deal.

I'm looking myself at the Cerb and have tried a couple there - nice people and give an honest view on the cars. For what it's worth, my own view is that there isn't a lot between the 3 types - all scary enough and plenty of potential to get into trouble compared to the Scoob. I did try a 4.2 with a sports exhaust and it sounded great so if I go for one then I'd get the exhaust. The other obvious things I've picked up are that a/c is essential (but a £2k option when new), and it will cost £1.5k min per year to run (servicing, pads, tyres etc).

Let me know if you want more info on the dealership, I have a name & number if you want it.

Happy hunting!

Jon

PS - have you looked at the 993? That's my alternative to the Cerb at the moment.

Jon,

Thanks for the dealer contact - I've taken a look at their web site and they have a few Cebera's in stock.

Re. S6/4.2/4.5 difference. The 4.5 spec includes uprated brakes and wheels/tyres and I'm told offers a slightly more 'raw' experience than the other two. The 4.5 engine is also slightly less likely to go wrong and cheaper (relatively) to fix. The S6 and 4.2 are (relatively) more day-to-day cars. All of this is hearsay / written elsewhere! The pistonheads site mentioned above is a good source of info and cars for sale.

Re. 993 - I think they'e a bit over priced at present but I'd be interested if you have any good contacts.

Have been thinking about selling my Griff and going for a Cerbera (keeping Scoob for everyday use) - I spoke to TVR in Farnham re the best model for me.

I was told that the 4.5 is the most reliable of the 3 engines and by the far the recommended purchase over the 4.2 (much better spec on the 4.5 re brakes/suspension etc) or the Speed Six - apparently a lot of these engines have gone back for factory rebuilds under warrenty. Although its covered and paid for by TVR, theres still the inconvenience.....

The Speed Six engine problems have also been an issue in the Tuscans.

Also, calling the Cerbera a 4 seater (have you tried getting four people in one??!!) is stretching it a bit!
Cheers

Ben
