My boss has just asked me a question about these, and what chasis were they built on.
I immediately thought the vectra, but was wrong ! any ideas ? :D Jonathan |
Mitsubishi Carisma ?
|
Yep, its the Mitsubishi Charisma's sister car. Built at the same factory in Holland.
Chris |
Same place they built the Volvo 343
|
I hated the 343/360 with a vengeance - mind you wasn't it RWD with a rear mounted gearbox like the 911 ? Track day car anyone

mondeo platform!!
surprising hey |
As far as I'm aware the Mitsu Charisma/Volvo S40 do not share a platform with the Mondeo?
Chris |
The Charisma/S40 share the same chassis. They are both produced in the same factory by NEDCAR in Holland, that's why they also share some engines. There is defintely no commonality between them and a Mondeo chassis, as Ford's purchase of Volvo cars came after they started producing the S/V40.

ahh didn't know that
http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/shocker.gif u gotta admit tho ford do love using a mondeo floor pan! |
How many cars, besides the Mondeo, do Ford use the floor plan in then?
I know the Jag X-type is... but any others? The new C1 platform will allow Ford to do what VAG do, use the same platform for countless cars throughout their range.. Volvo, Jag, Mazda etc. It can support FWD, RWD and AWD so a Focus Cosworth is technically possible without major expense, although I believe a performance Jag and Volvo will come first (taking on the M3 rather than hot hatches). |
The new S40 and V50 (launched next year) will be the first cars to use the new Focus platform, apparently.
The current S/V40 is definitely same platform as the Mitsu Carisma, you can even get the 1.8 GDi engine in the Volvo. |
