I'm sitting here watching the French Grand Prix, and yet again, I find myself thinking how much I prefer James Allen to Murray Walker. Does anyone here actually miss him?

DavidBrown 01 July 2001 04:50 PM

No, don't miss him one bit.

Still find Martin Brundle far more interesting to listen to than James Allen mind..

salsa-king 01 July 2001 07:49 PM

i was only thinking how good Martin Brundle is...a true gentleman of the sport.

Martin Brundle is superb but your man needs to chill a bit http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif As for that divvy bag Louise Goodman who does the interviews I WANT TO KILL HER!!!!

What about Suzie Perry on the superbikes though, drool.... I WANT TO MARRY HER

Bob

( disclaimer: I don't actually want to kill Louise Goodman, I just wish she'd get a job outside of TV).

Markus 02 July 2001 12:04 AM

Who's this Beverly Turner chick as well? Where did she pop up from?

AllanB 02 July 2001 08:04 AM

Murray Walker is a bit of a bumbling fool in my opinion and rather than his commentary adding anything I always found his repeated mistakes extremely annoying especially considering how long he's been around.

Only from a comedic point of view.

I'm sure they put Hunt/Brundle in to co-commentate so that the millions of us viewers aren't mislead for the whole race.

chiark 02 July 2001 09:14 AM

Richard, it's probably been a long while since you heard Murray commentate, so I guess it must be nostalgia that leads to this uncharacteristic judgement http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I thought James Allen showed himself to be even less competent than Murray.

"Remember in 1998 when Ralf was leading Damon Hill, even though Damon was faster and he was asked to move over. Hang on, no Ralf was faster. Err, Ralf was leading and Damon had to pull over. No, hang on Damon was leading and Ralf was asked not to catch him up."

I think James Allen is a fantastic replacement for Murray, once settled he'll be brilliant IMO. OK, he was a tad subdued and less excitable than Murray would have been, but then again there wasn't much to get excited about yesterday was there?
When he was in the pits he was spot on - he'll be like that in the commentary box as well - he called Rubins 3 stopper before Brundle did IIRC, he knows more about F1 than most..miles more than Murray ever will - still liked the old fella though http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Actually no, because Channel Nine in Australia used the coverage that he was on.

Here, Here, She rocks and is rather quite tasty, especially compared to Murray http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Sorry guys - Murray IS F1 - without him it just isn't the same. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

As for James Allen - he'll be alright when he finally gets through his book of euphamisms (sp?) - he is just trying to hard to put an adjective before every sentence just to make it "more" interesting. He is knowledgeable though.

Bring back Murray I say, and never let him go!

Niall, Allan et al,

How about passion - anybody who is that intensely passionate about F1 has got to be a good thing surely!!

Their is more to life than being a precise Automaton.

I actually agree that murray will be less missed than I thought.

i kept getting annoyed everytime he said "superlative driver!".
Which bloody superlative? he could have been the ugliest, slowest, fattest, oldest...... just didn't make sense.

on top of that I also found the mistakes more distracting than amusing.

Martin Brundle remains informative and calm.

I think James Allen although newish, and prone to some mistakes, will fill his shoes more than adequately, and does seem to have his head screwed on as far as technicalities are concerned.

No more, "and that's schumacher going off, unless I am very much mistaken.......................................... ........................................I am very much mistaken!".

I'll miss you Murray! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Big Den 05 July 2001 09:05 PM

Not missing Murray Walker at all. He should have retired years ago. In fact he may aswell just call it quits now & let James Allen (if he will be the permanent replacement) settle in for the remainder of this season.

Bob.T

Sorry, have to disagree with you on Louise Goodman - she does seem to be able to get interviews with the drivers who have retired during the race even when they must be pretty p155ed off in some instances.

Big Den

Edited because it looked as if I was saying Louise interviewed the drivers while they were still racing - somebody would have picked up on it!!

BOB.T 05 July 2001 11:52 PM

Den, I spose she does get the interviews, she's just bloody annoying and I don't like her http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Have you seen the coverage from Bathhirth, the actually do interview the drivers whilst they're racing!

Bob
