Tyres Northampton - we're not worthy. we're not worthy - after having a long chat with Dick Grimes I bit the bullet and decided on 215/40x17 T1-S' for my new set of Speedline GT-One's.

Mark at TN came up with £400 all in and off I went 45 miles up the M1.

Courteous, carefull and all round good-eggs what more can I say. Mark checked my rims before lifting them out of the car and was more than friendly and helpful.

On Saturday afternoon, I am itching to see what they look like on the car, so get the new wheel on and replace the original wheel nuts....these look and feel a litle strange as I nip them up. I scrutinise the taper on the nut and the taper on the wheel, oops they are different - this spells disaster.

I give TN a call...horror they've packed up for the day..cheekily I give Mark a call on his mobile. He is more than happy to advise that he thinks that one can't use the original nuts, but that he's sure he has a set at the depot. 'Pop down during the week and I'll see what I can do' he says. Grateful that my diagnosis was right and I had avoided losing one maybe two wheels on the motorway, I detour to Mark on the way back home from Nottingham.

He only presents me with 20 brand new wheel nuts, proper shouldered jobbies and won't even accept a drink for them.

Guys like this are worth their weight in gold, so remember if you need some boots Tyres Northampton (01604 588599)should be your first point of call.

PS. Mark will be at Donno so he deserves all the support we can give him.

Steve,

Me again, how you finding the Toyos?

Kevin

I put toyo proxes on my sti 5 on Friday and they are VERY impressive.

KevinW 27 February 2000 05:51 PM

pholt,

Yes, I am of the same opinion. They're very quiet and grippy from the word go. I am in the process of uprating my suspension at the moment (booked in for back end of next week) and look forward to testing the results.

Just out of curiosity (seeing as your suspension is firmer than mine), what size are yours and what pressure do you run them at?

Kevin

As part of the wheels and tyres I am also fitting Bilstein/Eibach damper kit.....so I'll ned to get the geometry reset before being able comment fully. Mark did warn me to take it easy for the first 100mls.

KevinW 27 February 2000 10:22 PM

Steve,

I know you are getting a full kit. But I already have Eibach springs and am considering Bilstein dampers. If you can find out a price for the dampers alone, I would appreciate you letting me know!

If you haven't uprated your roll bars or fitted an anti-lift kit, I should be able to give you some info on those items at Donnington (if you're going) or via e-mail etc by next weekend!

Cheers,

Kevin

Glad you liked the service Steve! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
They really want the track day thing to work, so these recommendations go a long way.

Stef.

I have the old toyos t1s on my winter wheels and they are utter crap!!. But on my summer wheels I have the new T1s and they are brilliant so dont be put off by experiences with the old ones. I need good tyres as I run a hairy chested mans car - unlike yourself!!

Sheridan 29 February 2000 08:55 AM

I had the new Toyo's fitted when I upgradded to 16" wheels recently.
I have to say at first I thought they were rubbish, sliding much easier than my old tyres, Then I looked at the speedo. They are good.
Pity this Mark is in Northampton though too far to be worthwhile I got them for 100 a piece in a local tyre place who do all the tyres for the Porsche specialists around us so they can look after wheels. Took some haggling though.

ptholt 29 February 2000 10:23 AM

Kevinw,

I'm trying to remember what the tyre guy said as he was pumping the tyres up re pressures.
He had a little book from toyo that told him what pressures to use.
Methinks 36 front and 34 rears was what he said.

Anyone recommend a tyre dealer in the vicinity of Watford?

Jon Stewart 01 March 2000 02:19 PM

Nick

I used Northway Tyres nr Vicarage Rd last year for 4 205x50x16 S02's - £400 all in.

I used Toyo's recommended supplier a couple of weeks ago in Bury Road Hatfield (a bit further afield) and got T1S's on four corners for £408 all in (again not the best) but local for me. Ive found them as good as the originals. The SO2's at 400 sounds a good price though.

blubs 02 March 2000 08:37 AM

Hi All,

Had to order my Toyo's and the cheapest was £440 fitted all in etc. That's also local so I'm reasonably happy. It took me four phone calls to find a garage that could get them http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif
You can say 'serves you right for living in the hills' now, if you like http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Thanks for the info. Fairway Tyres (off Leavesden Road in Watford) will do me 4 205/50 Toyo T1-S (on a 15 inch rim – for my Mundano) for £320.

Looks like that’s where I’ll be going – let you know what the service is like.
