hello f_t

running NT4, card unchanged, & it's pop3 only, forgot to mention that..ooops
it runs the notes administrator locally on the server which is confusing, but I am an exchange guy & know fook_all about notes:eek:
I installed outlook on to pull mail locally pointing to mx fregistered with notes server, but outloook doesn't see it.

cheers

ahh recognise that name.
Shunty what database loads up ?
You mean there is an error when the notes server starts up,
and this gives the error "unable to contact host" ?..what host ?
or the outlook client loads and cannot contact host ?

The outlook client is set up to use pop3 yea ?

(does it look like the notes server may be a bit shot.)
(cannot contact host, may be a red herring but notes works mainly
from normal naming convention. depending quite a bit on wins & dns. sometimes clients cannot resolve host server names, and you have to use ip addresses in place of, to get anywhere. a host file can resolve some of these probs)
here is a link that may shed some light on parts of it.
(unless i'm completely up the wrong tree)

If you just want to open and look at a few mailfiles forget about the Domino service and the server - the Domino Administrator doesn't like opening up local mailfiles. Instead configure a client on a seperate with no connectivity (within Notes that is) with a user ID which has permission to the mailfile(s). Copy them across to the client and open them up from there. That's assuming you don't have shared mail enabled.

Failing that, once the server is up and running correctly, you can dump the contents of the mailfiles to PSTs using the Migration Wizard supplied with Exchange Admin. Again a client machine will need to be configured with the Exchange admin client and Notes client. I've never got the Migration Wizard supplied with Exchange 2000 to work, and hence have only used the MW with Ex5.5 SP4. Notes client will need to be greater than 4.6.3.

is there a way/exe of pulling out mail from Notes version 5 like you can with Exchange by using exmerge ??

this server has been taken off line now, but does show an error:

it loads database up in the dos window then next line says:
"unable to contact host"
this doesn't look good, also can't do any of the normal commands in dos like ping, ipconfig etc ??

any ideas ??

cheers
