Is there some type of firewall that stops webcams being used in chat programs with telewest broadband. I've tried Netmeeting and Yahoo and neither work. The cam works fine but just wont broadcast. I get a problem with MSN trying to send/recieve files too.... seems to be a firewall problem too.

any ideas????

Are you using Internet Connection Sharing or a router?

If Yes to either, it could be due to NAT (Network Address Translation) not knowing what to do with the data.

yeah, i have ICS running. Is there anything i can do with NAT to get round it??

K... i've turned off ICS and i'm now using routing and remote access. Do i need to add the ports/ip addresses to be translated or something?? The network is running fine but i still can't get the webcam or the mic to go.

Have a look at this article should give at least some of the answers. I run through a router and have had to forward the ports to my machine, but this still gives problems from time-to-time which I have yet to fathom.

I solve this by setting my PC in DMZ whilst using the cam - works OK but remember PC is more vulnerable to potential attacks whilst in the DMZ.
