Just saw a very well camoflaged plod with tripod camera on the A414 out of Harlow (towards Hertford).
He was vitually standing in a bush! Fortunately a friend had warned me so I pootled past at 45mph. You should have seen the disbelief on his face as we made eye contact! Not sure if he was admiring the Scoob or gutted he hadn't photo's me?? |
I do believe that's where someone got pulled for 130 a while ago and got banged up for a few months. Quite worrying really -- most people who use that stretch would admit to exceeding the speed limit at some time.

Oh ****!
I use that road a lot, and always revel in the lack of traffic, speed limits and cops. I hope I didn't caught too! Carl, and sickboy, does one of you have an Arbie? Or maybe a red 'S' plate? Imran Silver MY98 |
Yup, just got my NIP through the post this morning. The chap was taking pictures from behind ie heading into Harlow (from the other lane)
F***ing t***sers. Bone dry day, completely clear visibility (sunshine) hardly any traffic. 90 in a 70. £40, 3 points. ho hum. So, on the day my wife is due to give birth, her car get's broken into on the drive. She's supposed to drive to the hospital for a checkup, and is terrified the skum will come bag to the house. What do the Police do? Laugh (yes) and tell her they don't send officers out for THAT. Just take the car to the SOCO branch at 8am the next morning for printing. Very fruitful as you'd imagine. Nice chap took the prints (there was only 1 he could lift which I suspect is the wife's). He wrote the reg on the back of his hand and said he'd be in touch. Hmmm. Ironically, I'd just had a Herts constabulary questionnaire to which I replied I had had no dealings in the past 12 months, and I thought the Police were doing a good job. I suggested they stopped persecuting the motorist and concentrate on burglars etc etc. Think I'll be changing some of that this morning. My dad and brother are coppers so I do sympathise, but will they ever stop screwing over the motorist http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif |
Simple answer to your question at the bottom.
No because we are easy targets http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif |
Hi fellow 414 users.
I'm often down that stretch of road on a Saturday or Sunday - picking up more supplies from BBQ. The Police used to patrol that section a lot but I must admit I havn't seen them for a while - too busy keeping an eye out for fellow scoobies. Phil RB5 |
Picking up on a thread here and veering off at a tangent ....
We are easy targets, but is that because we are willing to be so? If you were to mug someone in the street, or steal from a shop, or use someone else's credit card, as a first offender you could probably be offered or ask for, and get, a caution. This is no more than a slap on the wrist and doesn't cost any money. If, again as a first offender, you're caught speeding (45 in a 30, 90 in a 70) for an offence for which the plice are prepared to issue a fixed penalty (40 quid and 3 points), why is no-one ever offered a caution? This strikes me as discriminatory. I suspect we are so pleased to be offered an alternative to a day in court that we overlook the fact that we are actually being dealt with more harshly than (real) criminals. What we need now is for first offenders to ask for, and presumably be refused, a caution and then take their case of discrimination to their local MP. Volunteers? Brian |
Imran,
I've got a Sonic blue MY99. Disheartened by my recent ticket I thought about chopping the Scoob in- gut reaction and panic about being on 6 points now. Unfortunately the wife wasn't up for taking the points ;-). Any marriage vow specialists who can help me out here?? Fair cop anyway. First stop - VW garage. The guy did'nt know much about the Scoob- "why are the fogs so big??" was all he said! Took it for a spin (all the wrong gears - too high). He was impressed by the look but agreed it was a specialist car- he'll be getting back with a price. Next stop Subaru dealer in Baldock. STi on forecourt was initially encouraging. Laugh- I nearly p***ed myself when he offered 12K (MY99. 4000 miles). OK it's an import full UK spec with leather and aircon etc. He looked decidedly sheepish but said there was no way he could put it out front next to a UK sold UK car at anywhere near the same price. He was amazed at how little I paid (24k if he sold it he'd said- also he couldn't get one cheaper as a dealer!) "My hands are tied" etc etc. I appreciated his "predicament". His attitude about imports was intersting. I asked if he thought UK prices would drop. He stated it was just not going to happen. Instead he hoped the government or EU would close the loophole allowing UK driver to buy cars abroad. Isn't that called free trade? He bleated on about tax on luxury goods etc but don't think he was really convinced. Anyway, after a brief jaunt home, I've decided I still love the car and will moderate my right foot in future- and keep the Scoob (obviously). |
Reverse tangent...
Sorry to hear your news, Sickboy. VW http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif - dont go there - moderate the right foot http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Appreciate the warnings. I use that stretch daily Hat - Hert and relish its blastability and spicy rndbts. On a clear day... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Green MY98 S200OBY (250 from DVLA) |
I to was caught there in my old galaxy doing 98 in a 70 (5 points ouch). However I felt rather lucky as the previous day I had been down the same road at the same time with my Suzuki TL1000, and let us just say I may have been going a little bit fast than in the Galaxy.
Moral of this story ..... keep going to church. |
Martin, did I see you on the M20 last Thu? I was in a white G-reg Supra you passed just before you turned off. It was raining a tad hard though, so you may not have seen me.
