Ok this is not a car but a tractor but just have a read please, i am desperate!

Starter motor trouble. On starting the tractor you just get a loud clicking noise from either the solenoid or the starter motor. We have tried changing the starter with a new one but the same sound occurs. The battery is new, all the earth leads earth well.

However when the ignition is turned the lights dip considerably. The flywheel toothgear does not seem excessively worn.

When the tractor has been bump started it runs fine and all electrics seem ok.

Although this problem is with a tractor the starter motor and electrics principle must be the same for any vehicle. ANY IDEAS ANYONE????!!!!

Any help would be great.

TIA

Rich

My only experance's with this happening are.. Flat Battery, (is the new one fully charged?) What happends if you use jump leads to try and start it? This might give you your answer. Bad connections, (you've checked) Try shorting your starter across the termanals, Or maybe your not fully depressing your clutch peddle when turning the key, (maybe some **** under the peddle) Good luck. Is it a Massey Fergy by any chance? Ady

Might be talking sh1t but here goes. On our old MHF 65 if the battery wasn't up to speed you got clicks from the solenoid as there wasn't enough life in the battery to turn the engine over. To check out the wiring I would disconnect the battery and connect up the starter solenoid with jump leads. Should indicate where your prob is then. I've done it on the 65 so hopefully there should be no nasty surprises if you try it on the Lambo.

Cheers Pat

Thanks Pat

However we eventually found out it was a really dodgy earth connection and finally the tractor starts!!

If you want advice on a tractor, shouldn't you be posting to the Ford Cosworth Bulletin Board ?
