anyone reccommend any products to stop rust in its tracks so you can paint over without rust coming back.tried comma stop rust but im not impressed.

Look for products by Por-15, very, very good, but you need to be thourough in your prep work.

The stuff you get for boats is very good, canny mind the name of it though :(

Yup the only way to get rid of rust completely is to cut out the rusty metal and weld in new stuff. Using any of these rust cures will cause it to come back eventually.

Kurust can work but as already said the prep. has to be meticulous. Where is the rust on the car? And do you have to paint over it?

Waxoyl's good stuff but is best applied by brushing or by high-pressure spray using a proper compressor etc ... the "home spray" kits that you can buy in Halfords are bloody useless.

Even better is Dinitrol, again needs to be applied properly.

Oddly, the best time to Waxoyl a car is in high summer (if we ever get one ;)) because the warmth really helps it spread into cavities etc.

When I bought my old MGB V8 I got a local garage to spray all cavities, box sections, sills etc. Cost me £70 cash, and the car is still going with no rust breakthrough after 9 years ...

any anti-rust product with phosphoric acid in it is excellent.

Make sure you've got rid of the loose rust, then apply with wire wool, rubbing well into the rust. Leave for 10 mins or so, then wash off.

The rust should be neutralised and have turned black - paint over as normal.

To be safe, leave the treated part exposed for a few days to check that the rust is still not present (ie bits turn rusty brown again).

If u can't get at the rusty part, then try spraying the affected parts with Waxoyl - it forms a viscous coating over the rust and stops it dead. Again only works on active rust, not loose rust.

....Just found their website - I was using it in the seventies and it's still around, so that's got to say something for its effectiveness.
