Help......I have three problems that I believe are all interlinked with each other.

1. If I am in 3rd gear and then change to 4th when travelling at 60mph+ the the gear change creates a short audible clunk. It does not do this however, when changing from 3rd to 4th at speeds under 60mph. The problem is not intermittent.

2. I have an intermittent problem when travelling between 50 and 80mph, where the steering wheel starts to vibrate and so does the general chassis of the car. This is car based rather than engine based and it does not matter what gear I am in. This is an intermittent problem.

3. There is a fairly quiet whirring noise when driving (normally noticeable at lower and quiter speeds) but as soon as I push in the clutch this stops. The clutch also intermittently 'creaks' when I am using it.

I have had the wheel balancing checked and think it may be the clutch ot or the actual gear shifter. I am not very mechanically gifted so would appreciate any assistance, ideas or suggestions for getting this sorted as it is really starting to worry me.

1 Sounds like your 4th gear synchro is f*****d. Hope you've got some sort of warranty - expensive, believe me I know. Same thing happened on my first MY94 (no warranty, about £800) and same again on my MY99, had the warranty this time.....

2 Don't know if your wheel balancing OK. Possible side effect of 3?

3 ? Gearbox bearing on the layshaft? (it stops spinning when you depress the clutch)

Best prepare for having the gearbox out.....

Good luck
