At last, after waiting 7 months ive been to court for my speeding offense. It was touch & go for a minute, but I escaped without a ban. Much to my relief. Its a sober reminder of how only a couple of seconds 'going for it' in your scoob can suddenly mean your faced with having scoob privlages removed for a while. I was worried.

However I escaped with 5 points and a £330 fine. There goes by new back box then! (for a while anywat ;) )

ronny555 03 February 2003 07:05 PM

What was the speed?

STi wanna Subaru 03 February 2003 07:12 PM

Was it 162 mph in a P1? ;) I know you can't say as you shouldn't publicise it  :D

nuclear_pond 03 February 2003 07:14 PM

It was 90 in a 60 (A road)

Sith 03 February 2003 08:43 PM

90 in a 60 is nothing on some of the A roads I know. I wouldn't bat an eye at that speed.

rik1471 04 February 2003 08:30 AM

Well expect to get banned in the near future then :p

scoob_babe 04 February 2003 02:05 PM

nuclear pond - was that on the dual carriageway near McD's on the A483 Wrexham way?

MattW 04 February 2003 02:48 PM

That stretch of road is not Dualled. hence 60mph not 70.

scoob_babe 04 February 2003 02:56 PM

some of it is, going up the hill is dual but not the other way.

anyway i'm only asking cos I think this is the same day / same road that we were on and escaped

162 mph in a P1 04 February 2003 03:03 PM

u lucky bas***d try 162 in a 70 now thats serious 4 year ban and whopping fine and i had already got 9 points when it happened.

what would scooby do 04 February 2003 03:05 PM

I got a small child and both her parents whilst doing 50 in 30 outside a school...

162 mph in a P1 04 February 2003 03:06 PM

what u on about wwsd??

what would scooby do 04 February 2003 03:17 PM

Indeed !

Popeye P1 04 February 2003 03:32 PM

'162 in a 70 now thats serious 4 year ban and whopping fine and i had already got 9 points when it happened. '

A 4 year bean, U sure? Thought it was around a years ban for driving that speed.

StiShrek 04 February 2003 03:40 PM

i got 3 points for doing 82 in a 70mph zone ffs!!!

SiDHEaD 04 February 2003 06:46 PM

that's harsh, i got pulled at over 90 in a 60 (lovely straight clear road) and he dropped it down a bit and gave me a 3 pointer so i wouldnt have to go to court.

The Saint 05 February 2003 07:00 AM

Same there 95 on a 60, but as I stopped and grovelled and licked his/their boots till my tongue was raw, only 3 points.

ffs.

Scoob_babe - yes, that is where they got me. In a mobile camera in a van. I was speeding up the crawler late to pass some slower moving vehicles, your honour ;)

I wouldnt care, but it had been nose to tail traffic all the way from shrewsbury, doing 50mph. Crawler lane came so I went for it. Couldnt pull back in as everyone was too close together, so had go blast it to get into a gap ahead. Easy money for the cops. I bet they got loads of peeps that day.

I dont object to speed cameras if they are used in places more apropriate, like in 30 zones, outside scools etc, but this is just silly IMHO

nuclear_pond 05 February 2003 10:17 PM

God my spelling is terrible. Its a good job I have spell checker at work or I'd be sacked!

I am not condoning or glamourising speeding BTW, and I am relieved not to get banned. Very scared of being caught agin now.

How long do points stay on your license?

MattW 02 April 2003 01:57 PM

But there is no physical barrier - hence 60mph.

Edited to say - that stretch is notorious for deaths - If you do speed along there you are risking getting caught big time!!!

chiark 02 April 2003 02:08 PM

I think he's trying to make a point that "inappropriate speed kills" rather graphically ;) (BUT LET'S NOT GET INTO THAT DEBATE HERE)

Gaz Jones 02 May 2003 11:59 PM

points are active on licence for 3 years.

i got 6 points and a £300 fine for 72 in 40mph

and I had to cry/beg for forgiveness etc.

just gone off licence now actually, got another 3 on the same day

bugger.
