So, does a 3 litre v6 in a Ford Cortina make it a bit of a laff, or was it a big mistake?
People pay big money for Savages and Crayfords - i was just wodering why. I fancy a bit of a classic Q car, is this the way to go? Terry |
I had a Ford Cortina as my first car. 1.6L (whoopee) but it was great fun, especially with the rear wheel drive as you turned out of a give way http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
The thought of a big engine in it both scares and excites me. Will the suspension and brakes cope? Are you talking about a butcher job or did Ford actually produce such a beast? I'm very interested in how you get on with this idea. Dave. |
Mmmmm Cortina Savage http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Was indeed produced by ford ! Very rapid too for its age! |
Ian,
How fast? I'm having trouble finding any reputable performance figures. Seems like they're rare as hen's teeth these days. All the more desirable me thinks http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Terry |
Ooops my gaff ! not produced BY Ford, but by Jeff Uren who was involved in Ford Motorsport!
Figures from 'Autocar', August 31, 1967 Standing Quarter: 16.6 secs Standing Kilometre: 31.1 secs Maximum Speed in Gears: Top: 104 mph 3rd: 70 mph 2nd: 50 mph 1st: 33 mph From Rest Through Gears to Speeds: 30 mph: 2.7 secs 40 mph: 4.5 secs 50 mph: 6.4 secs 60 mph: 8.8 secs 70 mph: 12.2 secs 80 mph: 16.0 secs 90 mph: 21.3 secs 100 mph: 36.6 secs http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif not massively quick nowadays but for its time ie 1967 http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif |
Ian,
Fantastic, thanks for digging that out. So, you selling??! Terry |
Hehehehe, i dont have one, a friend of mine used to though http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Was a lot of fun, and also scarey ! LOL

Had the Capri 3 litre version. Full monty on the engine.
Only problem was the fuel consumption at low speed, the faster you went the better the fuel consumption. used to get about 15 to the gallon. All the best. :0 |
Wow, wicked, a freiend of mine had one of those back in 1981 when I got my first job at the car auctions, massively quick.
Seemed to go through half shafts as I recall, due to big power and big grip. Wicked if you can find one, his was black (MRT 3J) was the Reg plate. Wasn't the Capri a 3.2 litre and called a Broadspeed Bullet or was that a different one? |
