totally out of curiosity BTW
i have a UK MY98 with the std ECU, which one is it? I'm forever seeing posts with reference to AE800, AE801 etc, etc......never understood what they're on about :D cheers |
Chris,
Lift the carpet on the passanger side footwell. Under the metal kickplate is the ecu, the number on top will tell u what u wanna know ;) (if it is std) Pete |
AE801 = good
AE800 = still good I think (back me up somebody please) AE802 = bad, low fuel mixture at low revs and runs a bit rich at top end. I think the AE802 was only in the later cars such as the later MY99 and all the MY00 You should have an AE801 I think. EcuTek TEK2 = Performance tweeked map using AE800/801/802 V.Good, nice torque curve increase. Nezz. |
MY98 will be none of these, unless it is really a MY99.
|
john, its definetly an MY98
can you shed some light? was this MY ECU any good? I'm aware i cant get a Tek 2, what upgrade options do i have? cheers chris |
i would like to ask the same question as above
thanks |
Tek remaps are for MY99+
Your options are PPP (piggy back on a MY98 - I think) or another 3rd party replacement ala Motec, Link, etc.. Stefan |
Another option is a piggyback from Power Engineering, however I'm not sure whether they still sell them. IIRC its the around the same cost as a TEK2
|
above,Nezz says the ECU will be AE800,801 or 802,John replied that it will be none of these.
I haver a MY98 with an AE800,do i have the wrong ECU or have i misread Johns reply,or was John wrong? |
You have a MY99 then or there has been some label swapping. The engines changed to Phase II for MY99 and the ECUs are incompatible.
STi 5 AF040 STi 6 AF041 P1 AG340 MY99 AE800 or AE801 MY00 AE802 LHD models are 200 less so AE780/781/782, difference is the brackets but they are compatible. I definitely cannot program MY98s, but I can program AE800s ;) Show us a picture of the ECU label and under the bonnet and I'll try to work out which model year you have. this is one of those occasions when its sometimes tempting to lie in order not to look a tw4t,but,i have no one to blame.............it was dark, and i've checked again, and the label says A1-8000,not,AE800,case of wishful thinking :( (in the dark a 1- does look a tad like an E?,maybe not :)).I was so excited i didnt see the extra 0
so i have a MY98 and the best option is a Unichip? appreciate the help John |
I'd get a Link if I were you.
|
thanks,will check out Link
|
£1490 from BR
i think i will get me mate DJ to teach me how to drive first |
Decat, Dawes, boost gauge, knocklink then?
|
yep, decat centre next week, then Dawes,3 pod on order
and saving up for a new ECU will do knocklink at same time as ECU and learning how to drive, might be a lost cause though thanks again actually, thinking on,i assume you are recommending the knocklink to go with the Dawes, and you wouldnt recommend a Dawes without it? [Edited by dba - 4/18/2003 9:58:43 PM] |
No not for tame boost levels up to fuel cut, just that I might have coughed the phrase "fuel cut defender and 1.2 bar" if you had a knocklink ;) and would run it on Optimax plus octane booster all the time.
|
JOHN can you do owt for a 96 UK Ive got a pro drive ecu now but would like to better it , cheers alan
|
John
I was just looking through this thread and noticed that you listed the AF041 as the STI 6 ECU. Is this correct? I have a Dec 98 STI 5 Type R but have just checked the ECU for the first time and its a AF041???? What does this mean? And how does the 041 differ from the 040? |
Mine is also an AFO41. STI V Type R V-ltd. October 98. Could there have been an upgrade in its previous Japanese life?
|
Chris
if you are still about,my ECU is coded as AD170,MY98 wagon |
sg72 the Type R could be different, I think the other V5 I saw was AF041 but they are both the same as far as I can tell.
|
Some MY99s or version 5s were made in 1998, which is why they have the MY99 or version 5 gear. Don't forget that the release date for new versions is usually September/October of the previous year to what MY the car is labelled as. In other words a Scooby year starts in September and ends on the following August.
