I need to replace my front brake pads on my STI RA, it has the scoobysport 294mm Brembo upgrade and I was advised that the Pagid pads at £190 a pair where the way to go!! I have sourced some Mintex pads that are exactly the same size, these cost £9.10 a pair! What would you do?

Also I was told that Mintex make the Pagid pads, is this true?

Dom, don't know who makes what, but i changed my pads on the same set-up you have about two months ago.

I went from Pagid Blue to Pagid Black. The blues were in my opinion too hard for everyday use, took ages to warm up and were generally not very effective.

By comparison, the blacks are softer, have loads more initial bite, and are far better suited to "normal" driving. But to swap them cost me the best part of £200, as you mentioned...

That's my problem. I do drive my car hard and I will do about 6 track days this summer, but I find it hard to justify £200 on a set of brake pads when I can get a 'fast road' pad for a tenth of the price!!!
I am going to have the Mintex pads fitted, if they don't feel up for the job then I'll just stick some Pagid's on!

I'll post my result's.

at £9.10 a hit are you really sure these will work............
send me details of the pad (or by phone 0191-4103770) and i'll sort you a PROPER price out on the pagids...........
can't promise £9.10 but can probably sort you a better price!
and Mintex now owns Pagid but these are still operated as two seperate companies / products.....totally different compunds, etc...

I have run RS42 blues for ages but had a change this time to Ferodo DS2500s. I don't know if they're available for your application, but I've found them to be excellent and virtually NO dust (unlike the Mintex, which are like painting your wheels black after 5 miles:()

I'm going to stick the Mintex on just to give them a go, I'll let you know how I get on. If they're sh!t then I'll give you a ring for a more realistic price on the Pagids.

I used the Pagids on my Elise and I found they took ages to warm up, this might be due to the light weight of the Elise...also after 6000 miles inc. 8 track days they were still like brand new!!

I'm using standard Mintex pads with my Godspeed 294 discs, I paid £30.00 a set. I will get some 1144's for the track and use the standrads for the road.

I have same Scoobysport kit.
Pagid blues - too hard & eventually warped discs.
DS2500 much better & less dust.

Dom, if you take those cheapo pads to the track, make sure you have some spares! They will stop you slowly and wear in minutes :eek:

Paul, 1144 is a good road pad but you want 1155 for track.

Paul, how do you get on with the standard mintex pads for ewveryday use...I do sometimes use the brakes pretty hard on the road and am slightly worried as my RA has not got ABS?

I reckon you should get better pedal feel from a softer pad!

i have AP 6 pots on mine and they were fitted with pagid blues,

yeah great pads, but didnt last long at all even on normal rd use,

went to BGDevelopements, in bromsgrove worcs,

and had a set of EBC Greens fitted for i think it was £30,

and they are working fine, must admit not such a sharp bite as pagids but they are plenty good enough, for fast rd in my opinion,

Guys, rubbish pads can be cheap or expensive. Good pads are always expensive, or very expensive. Simple rule of thumb. In other words, the best is never cheap, if you follow ;)

I do not understand fitting Greenstuff pads in AP six-pots. It's a total contradiction. But if you're happy... ;) :eek: Hope you never have to do a full-on stop from 120 (track day obviously).

Comparing pads is difficult, given the wide range of driving styles and the fact that a set of DS2500 clamping a pair of big AP discs/calipers is not the same as standard calipers squeezing a smaller OEM disc. The comparison is almost completely invalid.

But if anyone wants to compare my AP six-pot plus DS2500 pads all round set up, to their own, please email me. I'm not trying to prove mine's bigger and better than yours etc, but they will scare you with their huge potency. On the road, they work brilliantly (as do many other brake set-ups) but they are peerless on track. I would be unhappy to use them without ABS - does that say more about my ability or the brakes?

I don't think anyone would laff!!! I really beleive that a lot of the fast/road race pads are to hard for normal driving, fine for a load of abuse on a track but they hardly get warmed up on the road.

I have the mintex £20 pads fitted and they feel fine, I know they won't last on a track and I will swop them when I do them, but for the road they IMHO are better suited and more effective!!

I'm sure people will disagree!
