A long way off already I know....but am gauging interest initially to see who fancies the trip down to the Catalunya Rally again this year.

I am considering trying to sort a deal through one of the specialists Rally Travel firms and could do you finding out the following;

1. How many are thinking about driving the whole way down (via the tunnel)
2. How many are thinking about driving the whole way down (via Plymouth - Santander ferry....take my word and plenty of others this trip is not the best!!...very rough at times)
3. How many are thinking about driving part way and possibly using the over night train through France and/or into Spain - this route is of interest to me...so I am looking at Hull - Rotterdam crossing and then possibly putting the car on the train in France - Toulouse (or to Spain)
4. How many are thinking of flying out to Barcelona and hiring a car
5. How many require hotel accomodation (normally B&B...however could easily be Bed Only as breakfast easily sourced locally) - the hotel of choice would have secure parking for those that have driven down :D:D

Please note that for anyone driving down you will require 2 people in the car! This is for safety as the possible speed and distance requires ALL persons to be alert and concious!!!

Those that drive down by any of the above routes will be provided with 2 way radios for in car banter (Mossman is a specialist in this field) and for "calling the road ahead".

I would suggest that ideally groups of 3 cars drive the route in order to best keep cars together and fueling at similar times/places....although groups larger than this is fine as long all cars have drivers of a similar level of experience...and equally the cars are similarily matched...

So lets see who's interested???

TaviaRS 30 January 2003 10:19 PM

Possibly interested in driving the whole way down.

Can I go in a special slow group? ;) or should I set off the week before? :D

Mossman 30 January 2003 11:09 PM

This is BIG 10-4 goin' out to all Cat 2003 drivers from the Mossman and Rumster, come on back y'all!!!?!?!??!

Mossman, it's 22nd - 26th October.

I'm a possible, but have no idea which group I'd fall into at the moment :)

For info, French Motorail's last service down to Toulouse is 12th September, but I've not checked yet to see if Auto-Train operate any later services.

Rum* 31 January 2003 10:25 AM

Stu...thanks for that.

I am actually thinking that if the train isn't running then maybe we'll head across from Hull to Rotterdam and then stay overnight somewhere on the way south before heading into Spain the following day.

I would be planning on staying for the whole rally event and then leaving the day after the end of rally party!!! :D:D

We'll see who else adds to the thread over the next couple of months...

For those seriously interested please register with the eGroup on Yahoo...

Tom

I'm thinking about this as it'll be the week after my 40th birthday so sounds like a great way to celebrate it :D.

I've never been there before, but thought I'd give the GB rally a miss this year after all the hassles imposed since it moved to Wales .

Not sure about getting there....would probably favour either taking the train part way, or driving down via the tunnel if others don't mind keeping an eye on a bit of a novice to continental driving.

Cheers

Mark

I'm interested as always :D

Will need to see how the new job works out though, whether or not I'll have sufficient cash available though.

My preferred options would be:

1) Easyjet to Barcelona, share driving or simply passenger with one of the other Scoobs there. Happy to pay fuel/insurance costs as required.

2) Easyjet to Luton, share driving or simply passenger with one of the other Scoobs going. Happy to pay fuel/insurance costs as required, plus ferry/tunnel/train costs whichever way you are getting there.

I'm driving down via tunnel again this year, but same as last year I am making it a 2 week holiday so am heading down the weekend before, returning the weekend after.

Looking forward to it already!!! :) :) :)

2. How many are thinking about driving the whole way down (via Plymouth - Santander ferry....take my word and plenty of others this trip is not the best!!...very rough at times)
Too bloomin right. Bloody boring as well.

AR on my PC reckon it's 1065 miles to Lloret from my house (channel crossing). In the new Evil Diesel, that's about £75 in fuel :D

I'm open to suggestions still. SleezyJet is cheaper (although add in hire car cost and I wonder what the difference is), but you run the risk of naff hire car syndrome.

Last years accomodation was fine (not flash but when all you're doing is passing out in bed each night...) and the underground parking recommended for piece of mind each night.

Rum, I have a good contact at a new Rally Travel company since Monte.

Chris.

jorjo007,

Hi!! Sounds like a great idea....we'll have to meet up in Lloret....or maybe even as we come into town :D

Sign up to the Catalunya egroups (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Catalunya_Rally/?yguid=52702817) so that you are kept in touch with our plans....its a long way off....but nothing like forward thinking :D :D :D

ChrisB 05 February 2003 09:14 AM

Will do Tom - I mailed him last night asking him about Cat :)

Rum* 05 February 2003 06:46 PM

jorjo007...Oh yes!!! Lloret for an International Meet in October!! :D :D Bring it on...!!! :D

It would always help us useless english only speaking scooby owners to have someone who can help us order a tray full of beer :D:D:D

Speak soon

Rum

JohnS 06 February 2003 10:23 AM

Rum,

I'm sure we are well capable of ordering a tray full of beer :D

However translating some of the menus when ordering in a restaurant would be a great help. I can remember ordering something when I was over, and it wasn't quite what I was expecting ;)

John

jorjo007 06 February 2003 01:34 PM

About the beer, I´m glad that we have the same tastes....hehehe...anyway lets see what happens..

Rum* 06 February 2003 01:58 PM

JohnS.....yup....bit of a "tongue in cheek" comment....tho yea...some of the restaurant menus are interesting :D

BTW John...you going to make it this year??? If we head off from Hull....it would make life a wee bit easier for the Scottish contingent??!!

Maybe 2 days to get down.....stopping for the night somewhere mid way down

Rum

JohnS 06 February 2003 04:16 PM

Rum,

I'm very interested as always, and the timing in October suits me far better this year.

Are you thinking of going Hull - Zeebrugge ? This would be much better fo us Scots, but we also have the option of the Rosyth - Zeebrugge ferry as well, which would be at mid-season rates (ie cheaper than driving to Calais and then crossing).

Arriving at say midday (by the time you get off), I reckon we could reach Lloret by about 10pm (just in time for last orders :D)if you drove, and haven't investigated the motorail options yet. This would be just more than a day's travelling, as the Rosyth ferry doesn't leave until the evening.

Looks like a fairly straight southerly run through Belgium, and French toll roads, so should be quite easy driving. Don't have Autoroute at work, so no idea on the distances, but will check at home.

John

scrap 11 February 2003 12:38 AM

My only option is to fly then get a hire car (unless someone needs a co-driver):D

Teri

Scoobychick 13 February 2003 08:52 PM

Teri

I do believe that Tom was looking for a good looking, blonde, female co-driver (such as yourself) but ended up with Mossman instead so unless Moss has dyed his hair and had a sex change that option is already out of the window ;):D:D:D

However I'm also looking for a hunky male to co-drive for, so perhaps we should team up and offer two for the price of one?? ;););):D:D:D

Now theres an idea ;) :D

I'm not 100% sure yet whether I will do the Cat or the Antibes European rally. If all goes to plan I will be going to the San Remo and Corsica before too :D :D :D :D

Teri
