Grampian Police now have a speed camera similar to that used in the Inverness area (laser unit) which catches cars from within a van. It is being trialed today on the road between Burger King and Makro and the Renault garage just down from there in Altens. There is also a static old fashioned mobile gatso unit and a Police Omega in the area.
The new camera does not take two pictures like the old ones. It can catch you from the front or back without flashing. The trigger speed will no doubt it will be set to 5mph or 10% more than the limit.
The two vans in question are as follows;
1) Transit Van marked in Grampian Police Livery with
Camera Safety Unit on the bonnet reg no SV52VJE
2) Unmarked White Corsa Combo Van reg no S978JSA

As far as I remember, these cameras can take you at up to ½ mile
away, so beware of any white vans/police vehicles at the side of the road just incase you are slightly over the limit. Naturally it is far more important to charge someone doing 46mph in a 40mph limit than charge a burglar for robbing someones house, or doing a mugger for battering an old woman so they are out to get you!!
