Can I mail you a test program which will tell you if you're connected to the internet or not? that's all it does, no funny business.

you need to be running through a proxy and/or a firewall, btw.

cheers

Paulo P 27 January 2003 04:08 PM

You can send it me if you like :) mail me as per my profile

what would scooby do 27 January 2003 04:39 PM

It says not connected to the network for me - behind firewall but no proxy

Fosters 27 January 2003 04:44 PM

yeah, written another one. Stefan's testing it for me.

works out if you are connected to the net and if you are, how (modem/lan)

Lan -> Firewall -> Private WAN -> Firewall -> Internet

Identified as "LAN"

Fatman 28 January 2003 10:24 AM

PC > s/w Firewall > LAN > h/w Router > Internet
...registers as "LAN".

what would scooby do 28 January 2003 11:04 AM

pc > hardware firewall = LAN

Jeff Wiltshire 28 January 2003 11:10 AM

SonicWALL....LAN

Fosters 28 January 2003 11:12 AM

cheers chaps.

did anyone try stopping the network connection and then running the test app?

Fatman 28 January 2003 12:34 PM

It still recognises the LAN even if the cable's unplugged.

Fosters 28 January 2003 12:38 PM

is it red or green tho'?

Gedi 28 January 2003 12:44 PM

LAN > Bridge > LAN > Switch > Router > Proxy > IDS > Firewall > WAN = LAN on green.

Fatman 28 January 2003 12:47 PM

It shows LAN/green when the ethernet lead is unplugged as well as when it's connected.

Fosters 28 January 2003 01:00 PM

bit more code then.

MrShades 28 January 2003 01:16 PM

I'm using home LAN (private IP), though also with VPN running (public IP), through a ZoneAlarm Pro firewall and it says....

"Modem"

Shades

IWatkins 28 January 2003 01:22 PM

Shows Green "LAN" even if I pull the LAN cable, I assume because the NIC is still live.

However, shows Red ".//." if I disable the "Local Area Connection".

Still shows Red ".//." if I restart the "Local Area Connection" and stays red no matter how many times I click "Connection" button. However, as I soon as I use the LAN in any way, clicking the "Connection" button brings it back to Green "LAN".

Cheers

Ian

Works through Firewall NG also. Detects the LAN correctly
