I am looking at getting a TFT monitor.
19" I think,
What is good?
What is bad?

Is Scan the cheepest place?

JackClark 27 January 2003 12:59 PM

On my cheap 17" one fonts bleed quite badly. Next time I'll spend double.

That's the problem. You need to pay top $$ for one to rival a CRT equivalent.

Someone was selling a 19" for around £500 inc. VAT. Not sure if it was scan or eBuyer. Noticed it this morning.

I've been using a Dell 15" TFT (no idea what the refresh rate is) and it's been fine in games. I ain't going back to a CRT now.

Having seen several TFT and hundreds of CRT monitors, I have never seen a TFT that rivals the higher end CRT's for resolution/refresh rate. The only reason i'd ever buy one would be for space saving reasons. And as I have a PC table - that isn't an issue.

OK will do.
I have a 19" CRT but I need to make some space on my desk so a flatscreen it is.

rik1471 27 January 2003 04:43 PM

I have a 21" Flat Screen CRT, and I challenge any TFT for sharpness and resolution/refresh rate.

Admittedly the this took 2 people to lift it onto my desk

Hi Velcro Pete

Call me or log onto the site as above mentioned by Mark ,
As for Picture quality ! You get what you pay for on TFT's

CRT quality can easily be rivalled by a high quality TFT Especialy with DVI
Best ones are

Compaq 7020 17"
Dell 1900FP 19"
Compaq 8030 18"

Tboner, i disagree , those monitors have not got remotely the best reviews on any site i have read.

Its Hitachi or Iiyama for a TFT, nothing else is remotely close in terms of refresh, colour control, brightness or contrast.

The 19 inch equivalent of Iiyama AS4314UTG or Hitachi CML174SXW are your best bet but i do WARN you, they are SILLY money compared to a CRT and not as good.

Here is some reviews of the 17 inches;

http://www.tomshardware.com/display...211/lcd-07.html

Yes i am aware those are tom's hardware links but the conclusions are more than backed up on other review sites.
