See you boyz on track............ well, only in my mirror of course.

Car has a slightly ;) tickled engine, producing about 450bhp which equates to 375bhp per ton. :D

Incase you were wondering it's a RS500 Cosworth! :) My new toy.

Very nice :)
What exactly has been tickled?

JackClark 26 January 2003 07:12 PM

Very nice indeed.

Attu 26 January 2003 07:15 PM

That looks great :)

Shaun 26 January 2003 07:20 PM

Complete engine rebuild, comprising of......

Ported head
4 Grey Injectors
Cosworth pistons
7.2:1 compression ratio
High Torque cams
-31 actuator
Swirl pot
Breather system
Wire rung block
Over 2 bar of boost
3 bar map sensor
Twin race spec fuel set-up in boot with swirl pot
NGK race plugs
WRC spec iginition leads
New ECU
Re-mapped chip

All around the original RS500 block with T4 turbo (thats about twice the size of a standard Scooby one :D), including normal RS500 bits like HUUUUGE intercooler etc etc.

Goes like badgers sh*t of a teflon shovel.

Requires (to come over the next 12 months)....

Another 4 grey injectors
Pectal super 8
Head porting to GRP A spec
Air to air injectors

............. for over 500+ BHP (In essence a touring car spec engine).

Not bad for a car made in 1987!!!! ;)

Regards,
Shaun.

Shaun absolutely top motor.

My all time favourite, so very hard these days to find a good example very very nice mate.

I still watch the old bhp touring car video with the kaliber rouse rs500 and the Texaco engenderer awesome motors..

Mick :D

Shaun 26 January 2003 07:28 PM

I'm informed there are less than 200 left in the world!!!

Regards,
Shaun.

Ray_li 26 January 2003 07:30 PM

I bet that car ROCKS but I think the style of it is a bit dated now.
Ray

Redkop 26 January 2003 07:32 PM

Shaun you have one very cool beast there! Glad you drove it down to Dono today so we could see it. A very wise buy :p :p Lucky git!! You gonna reciprocate the passenger ride?

igratton 26 January 2003 07:32 PM

Saw shauns new beast today - and I have to say its a real beaut :)

There is something very appealing about these cars - I'm sure you'll love every minute of it mate.

Ian.

Shaun 26 January 2003 07:34 PM

Ray,

Your right about the rocking bit!!! :D

Point taken on the styling front........ as it's only a Seirra Bodyshell in essence, but the RS500 is bigger than that. It is one of the all time greats and has stacks of history and heritage, hence why they have always commanded high prices.

Funnily enough the RS fraturnity class them as the ultimate Cosworth...... regardless of the age.

I'm sure the same will be said regarding the 22b in the future.

Regards,
Shaun.

Shaun 26 January 2003 07:36 PM

Lynne,

Once I have got used to travelling sideways and she is run in.......... no problem!!! :D

Regards,
Shaun.

ImprezaWRX 26 January 2003 07:37 PM

Shaun just to show my love for the RS500 if you want some one to wash and wax it give me a call..lol :D

I am sure my Impreza WRX will bow in its presence..

You still running the standard air box???.

Cheers Mick

Shaun 26 January 2003 07:39 PM

LOL :)

Regards,
Shaun.

Shaun 26 January 2003 07:41 PM

Yeap still running the standard airbox.

This is a bone of contention with many tuners......

Some say get a cone filter, cause it can take in more air..... others say keep with the airbox as COLD air is directly ducted straight to the box.

Regards,
Shaun.

Redkop 26 January 2003 07:45 PM

Go for the cone Shaun and get the chatter :p

Shaun 26 January 2003 07:55 PM

Lynne,
As your aware from Andys RS500......... it wont be the Turbo your hear chattering, it will be your ar5e!!!!! :D

Regards,
Shaun.

Redkop 26 January 2003 08:09 PM

Nevetas 26 January 2003 10:00 PM

Very tidy motor

MTR 27 January 2003 12:06 AM

Shaun,
Very nice motor, should make the trip to work interesting in the mornings.

The Rob Gravett/Mike Smith Sierras that won the Touring car championship way back used to have all the components lifed in hours!!
Suspension legs, hubs, brakes, engine blocks (the block was designed to twist and flex so avoiding cracking under the immense strain of 550bhp+)and even the bodyshell.
After the safe working life was reached the relevant item was scrapped prior to failure (hopefully) to maintain reliability.

As they say to finish first, first you have to finish.

How long do you feel engines, and indeed the entire running gear/transmission/bodyshell, on a car tuned getting towards full competition spec should last before likely failure?

I appreciate that you would be unlikely to run at maximum power for extended periods, but if as you suggest you use it in anger on the track are you not at some risk of lessening the life of
the entire vehicle by exploiting such high power outputs.

When Gravet and crew were doing it new engine blocks/bodyshells etc would probably be supplied at very attractive prices from Ford (maybe even free if they were a works supported team, I cannot remember).

Cosworth are without doubt the best engine designers/builders in the world (the DFV holds the absolute record for most F1 GP wins)
and the BDA/BDG/BDX powered one of the most prolific winning rally cars and saloon racers ever in the form of Mk1/2 Escorts, but trying to build and maintain a car at this level must surely be a potential financial timebomb for a private individual.

Personally I would love to own a MK1 RS1600 Escort, with a full AVO steel big wing shell, tuned to about 200bhp, but the availability of supply and cost of components would make it too much of a worry for everyday motoring.
I believe the chap that owns Dimma styling used to have one with about 250bhp, but it was only used in the dry, and in special circumstances. Lucky sod.

Cheers MTR

PPPscooby 27 January 2003 12:09 AM

still its an old ford sierra!!!! lol !!!

Redkop 27 January 2003 07:29 AM

still its an old ford sierra!!!! lol !!!
Maybe, but a far better investment than any Scoob will be and it won't depreciate alarmingly in value like Scoobs do. Probably increase in value if anything.

prodriva 27 January 2003 01:50 PM

Just out of mild curiosity, how much has all this cost you including the initial purchase price? Very nice btw.

GuyM 27 January 2003 01:56 PM

Its mingin!!

e-volve 27 January 2003 03:35 PM

someones put a ratty old ford on the Scoobynet BB, wtf......lol

It may be old matey, but it looks as good as ever....lovely ;)

Richard Askew 27 January 2003 04:13 PM

Scoty 27 January 2003 04:22 PM

Wolf in wolf's clothing m8.

Wish I had one.

Paulo P 27 January 2003 05:14 PM

Very nice :) these cars are good fun to drive and I have driven Astraboys a few times now. He dragged his against Gossys wagon on an airfield and it was neck and neck until it got to about 100 then astraboys pulled away :D:cool: and his isn't that tuned  I think his runs 263 bhp, the only problem is traction off the line with these and with a T4 that you would have to get on boost to launch that could be very tricky

Paul

Shaun 27 January 2003 06:28 PM

I know it's not everyones cuppa tea.... cause I would have to be a Scooby owner if I thought it was the best car EVER!!! lol :D :p (But I did have a Scooby a couple of years back) ;)

It is old BUT it doesnt show its age when it's pushing all that air through the T4 on track! ;) If you thought Astraboys was quick, try sticking another 200bhp on top!!! :)

Thanks for the nice comments though. I will try and attend forth coming Scooby meets. :)

Regards,
Shaun.
