I've been a member of various bulletin boards but I don't recall having seen one like this before. Anybody know who designed it? And whatsmore is it time (gulp) to update it? To enable avatars, sigs etc etc.

The "boss" is Simon, and he's on webmaster@scoobynet.co.uk.

Its all bespoke. Which has some good features - i.e. no sigs or avatars (we're not all on ADSL ;)) and some bad - like still no decent search.

You are correct Simon is responsible for this. And you have to admit that when you consider the sheer amount of traffic that it see's it really does hold up very well!

Before we used this software ScoobyNet was run on UBB IIRC.

spot on. It's all bespoke. which has it's problems as there are still small bugs which I've never gotten round to fixing. The search is a prime example.

The reason for the bespoke route is that it was designed purely with speed and stability in mind to handle the traffic. UBB was crashing the server daily by the time we installed this software.

Cheers

Simon
