I have just brought in my STI 1 from Japan. They run 100Ron petrol over there and need to know what to do to get the best out of it over here with our unleaded 95 Ron or Super97 which is getting more difficult to find. Some technical info I found on the net says I can get problems with the engine management system if I leave it. Any advise welcome or pointers in the right direction.
Thanks.

Defector,

You will ideally need to run with super or optimax - plus an octane booster which you can buy from most car stores.

Do a search on here for Super or octane.

As James states, either 97 ron or optimax, preferably with an octane booster (approx 3 quid a bottle per tank of fuel).
The problems that can occur are not just ecu related but mechanical aswell :( as the cost of a new engine due to having the pistons melt on you due to detonation by running the wrong fuel can be quite expensive due to cutting corners :( (4k is around the rebuild cost of a scoob engine).

Ive got an MY93wrx, when i first got the garage told me ok to run it on NUL so i did probably for about 6 months, but then i switched to Optimax, and instantly noticed the difference. Now i only ever try to run it on Optimax .... It seems more responsive, and probably get a slightly better MPG .. ive never used any petrol additives - so cant comment on them.
