with nero and you are the only user of the computer just accept the default. If you have other users who use the computer and have their own profile within Users?accounts, you must add their names to the permissions in Nero. I think however you have set your PC up as the single user, therefore accept the default.

As to you modem...ni idea.

xp is a bast**d if your trying to runn software not meant for xp get new updates for everything to make it run better under this system,as far as the modem is get rid of it and put a new v90.2 in will only be about £10 and should work properly ;)

If your modem driver won't let you switch off the speaker, you can switch off the internal speaker on the modem using terminal emulation software and AT commands :)

Do a Google for "modem AT commands" and you should find what you are after.

This is the usual command:

Mn (Speaker Control)
M0 -- The speaker is always off.
M1 -- Enables the speakerduring call establishment, but off once the carrier is detected.
M2 -- The speaker is always on.
M3 -- Disables the speaker during the dialing period and receiving carrier, but on during answering.

Ask Scoty m8.

Got ure mail but would need to have a butchers hook at it my top shelf.

Also what v of Nero r u running?

Attu 25 January 2003 01:36 AM

Cant remember exactly how to do it but if you go to modem properties and into settings there should be a box with nothing in it.
enter the value "m0" without the quotes and it should stop the noise.
Or does m0 stop the sound of the dial tone ? hmm if you do a search on the net you should be able to find the codes.

m8,

i had the same problem, i tried everything including using the AT command set. i eventually got a 3.5 mm jackplug off an old set of walkman speakers and stuck it in the phones socket in the modem. cured the screechin noise. also the xp drivers for the conexant win modem allow it to operate (read sh1te) so i would recommend a trip to ModemHelp

hope this helps

cheers
