There have been a number of threads on here about Godspeed's "poor performance". Most that I have seen seem to be resolved quickly and it is usually a simple solution.

When was the last time a Brembo or AP racing engineer came on here to field questions and abuse. I know this thread is going no-where but I just had to say it :D!

if only you knew the trouble i've had with that kit!!!!

RON 22 January 2003 11:21 PM

Yes, but you didn't give Ian a chance to rectify it did you!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

WUZ 23 January 2003 12:02 AM

I have to admit to slagging off Ian in the past with the first kit I got from him but it has to be said that he is a 1-man business who takes pride in what he does. That is why I bought another, bigger kit from him!

All I can say is give him time to answer and he WILL sort it out as he is a believer in customer service.

Thats who I would give my money to.... Anyone who backs their product name etc.

EBC brakes get a lot of stick ..but they are always sorting the problem out.

Its nice to hear good feed back.

JamesS 23 January 2003 08:25 AM

Brakes...brakes...brakes....you would not believe the grief I had with a set of `uprated` brakes from a WELL known SE `specialist`.

The `specialist` did not a) bother to check that his bells actually allowed the wheels to sit on the hub, hence generating a wobble in the wheels and taking all the wheel loading through the wheel lugs - BAD. b) Did not bother to check the brake hose unions and left one leaking, twice. c) Actually swore at me, a paying customer, for wasting his time while I demonstrated that his piece of **** brakes where warped for the 4th time, after driving it out of his `workshop` after he had inspected them fro the 3rd time, because as a professional engineer I can`t identity when the disks are warped!!!!!!! What a joke, and on saftey critical components as well. I`d been buying pads and whatnot for a good couple of years at this place. I will not return, ever! The worst service I have recieved from any supplier, ever.

I told them where to go and bought a full set of AP. Had issues with one set of disks 6 months after fitting, they where replaced no question (although originals where inspected).

Moral of the story - Because someone only sells one type of technology it does not make them an expert, just because they`ve done it before that way does not make it correct.

And finally you get what you pay for!

Sorry for the rant! And this was some time ago now as well.

Godspeed Brakes 23 January 2003 08:52 AM

Cheers for that steve ,
Scoobyboy , what do you mean the trouble you have had with yours? Not long after having your kit you told me the calipers were siezed , sorry but there is no way this would happen , new pistons and new seals fitted into a perfectly clean caliper will never sieze in the time you said it did , they will only seize if a ruuber boot has been damaged and road muck and water has got into the bore and either got muck between the piston and caliper body or the bores go rusty , which would take a lot longer than you had them on for , then you told me they fixed themselves and now seem alright ??!! Everyone now knows you think you have a warped discs from one of the other threads and I have offered to sort it out for you , But so far you have taken no steps to have them fixed , If you don't send me the discs or come down here I cant fix your problem , so perhaps you should stop bitching .
Cheers Ian

Erik 23 January 2003 09:02 AM

Ian are you from Godspeed? Can you tell me pleas if your compay have coonversion kit for OE Subaru 4pots to cca. 306mm discs to fit under OE 16" wheels?

Tanks.

Beastie 23 January 2003 09:31 AM

I would just like to say as a demanding customer, that I purchased a set of Godspeed 335mm upgrade brakes. They were delivered exactly as I specified the day previous to when I needed to fit them.

They have done everything that Ian Godney has said they would do and because of that I am a satisfied customer and will undoubtedly be buying from him again.

Beastie

JamesS 23 January 2003 11:59 AM

Just to point out my `issues` were not with Ian / Godspeed.

scoobyboy 23 January 2003 05:26 PM

i never said seized i said sticking which have now been rectified not by themselves but by somebody else. i don't think they are warped i know they are and your method of making the straight again is a bit dubious to say the least. (40 yrs of a family run precision engineering business showed me that) the delivery time of ten weeks and being told three or four times they would be with me at the end of the week leads me to believe that the quoted two day turn around is more like two months so to be honest i can't trust you with the discs. i can't be without the car for that long. and you have had my e-mail regarding the other problems with the kit so i won't air it on here. all i asked for was two new discs under warranty not my old discs refurbished as i don't see this as a warranty only a way out.
the other halfs car had ebc discs that warped took them back and with no questions asked they changed them that is a warranty ,so your claim to have the best offer of warranty on discs doesn't stand.
there may be a lot of people on here who rate your stuff which is why i opted for the kit in the first place but i'm afraid i don't rate it i have been very dissappointed with it so far and honestly wish i had saved for a few more months to get a more well known brand.
cheers mark

Godspeed Brakes 23 January 2003 05:32 PM

Mark , I have offered to help you by either grinding (dubious!!!) the discs or if that fails then change them , all you seem to want to do about it is complain , if what I have offered you is not good enough for you I'm sorry , Ian

Steve vRS 23 January 2003 08:06 PM

Mark,

If you work for/own a precission engineering business you have the tools to check for warping.

Put the disc in a lathe and clock the surface on both sides. This will show up if the discs are warpped.

Regards

Steve

scoobyboy 23 January 2003 10:23 PM

ian surface grinding is not suitable for refacing discs as i said in my e-mail they need to be turned on a lathe or cylindrical ground. so no it's not good enough
steve, my father now runs the business as i'm a scooby technician the discs are off to a certain rally company via a friend and depending on what they say about them will be sorted out at the business.
cheers mark

AllanB 23 January 2003 11:07 PM

I hope he is better at resolving problems than answering his emails as I have been awaiting a reply for about a month now after about 4 emails chasing. First sent an email in October and finally got a response in December.

Not impressed at all.

alcazar 23 January 2003 11:09 PM

Have to say I got my set at VERY short notice, good service, even extending to a lift to the local mall to pass the time, and pick up afterwards, and no probs with the product.
AFAIC Godspeed are OK!

ian surface grinding is not suitable for refacing discs as i said in my e-mail they need to be turned on a lathe or cylindrical ground. so no it's not good enough
Discs should be blanchard ground (surface ground by the side of a grinding wheel as the disc rotates) and ideally, not turned on a lathe if possible. I assume this is what was meant by cylinderical grinding, as strictly speaking that is used to grind an outside diameter.

paul

Godspeed Brakes 24 January 2003 08:32 AM

Pavlo , Yes the discs were going to be blanchard ground , Mark just assumed that they would be surface ground ,

AlanB , Waiting for a reply ?? I have sent you replies to all your emails , I have just checked , To recap very briefly , reconditioned calipers for a Daihatsu Charade GTti are £160 a pair , and no we cant fit bigger brakes under 14" wheels .
If you want more info mail me.
Cheers Ian

scoobyboy 24 January 2003 08:06 PM

assumed did i!!!! from the horses mouth i think is the phrase

"For your information we do not skim discs , we check for runout on the discs
as we have an accepteble amount they can be out , if they are over this
amount we allow another amount that they can be surface ground to true them
up "

dropped yourself in it there and spot on pavlo that is what i ment

Godspeed Brakes 25 January 2003 10:12 AM

Scoobyboy , We have our discs blanchard ground , I sent that message to you for you to know the discs are ground and not skimmed , if I knew you knew so much about it I would have been more exact for you . Hope this clears that up . Ian

Claudius 25 January 2003 02:44 PM

I think that people who brake hard will get problems with these discs, people who dont wont.

I got emails from people with Evos who had problems with these discs when Ian tried to sell them on the MLR.

Steve vRS 25 January 2003 07:30 PM

I have done two trackdays and have had no problems with the discs or pads. I know people from on here who have been to the Ring and have had no problems.

Steve

scoobyboy 26 January 2003 11:20 AM

thats just the thing i haven't done any track days it's only a gti-6 not a scooby so it's normal run to work braking with the occasional thrash at weekends.

Godspeed Brakes 27 January 2003 03:28 PM

Claudius , you really are a clown arn't you , you mentioned the same thing a few months ago about the EVO owner , and I'll give you the same answer now - The EVO owner bought second hand discs that had done a lot track use , the second owner said he warped them but had them skimmed before I even knew they were warped and then got upset because I wouldn't change them for him for free .
We have sold a lot of discs to EVO owners and a lot more for scooby owners who do take them out onto the track , so your statement

"I think that people who brake hard will get problems with these discs, people who dont wont."

can be disregarded just like most of the other rubbish you type .
Our discs are very good on the track , sometimes people do have problems with our discs and we sort them out under our guarantee , If I didn't think our discs were good enough I wouldn't give them a track day guarantee , name someone else who gives that !!

Perhaps you should give our discs a try then you could give a first hand thought on them instead of second hand stories .
Ian

Mkhan 27 January 2003 04:07 PM

Well I must say... I was very pi$$ed off having to wait quite a long time for my disc when I ordered them via a group buy, But at that time I didn't know that Ian petty much works alone.. But once I got my disc I haven't looked back... wicked stopping power and great value I think..

Anyone that knows me knows how I drive and also knows that I have warpped every disc under the sun http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk...e/embarass.gif

So as far as I am concerned Great disc.. look the http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/doggy.gif and I am happy..

Its fair to say, that yes, you may have to chase Ian a little and you may have to wait for your disc.. but when you get them fitted and you look at the quality of work gone into these disc then you will be http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk...e/biggrin3.gif

I even went back and got Godspeeds on my rears to..

Claudius 28 January 2003 11:31 AM

Claudius , you really are a clown arn't you
Who? Me? Because your discs dont give enough pad clearance or used not to, I am a clown?

I didnt mean that story but someone else.

Perhaps you should reword your warranty to "first owner guarantee" or something?

your statement

"I think that people who brake hard will get problems with these discs, people who dont wont."

I dont think that's rubbish. You surely know wbout your disc material, heat and / or surface treatment and how many degrees it can take; if my pads can take 800°C and your discs 950°C, then chances are I cannot warp them. Now if I change to 1000°C pads, I will. Tell me how much temp your discs can take before expanding and I tell you if I can warp them or not.

Perhaps you should give our discs a try then you could give a first hand thought on them instead of second hand stories .
I will try your discs on my Evo or on my Impreza if you like. If I warp them, I send them back, if I dont, I will pay for them. How about that?

If I didn't think our discs were good enough I wouldn't give them a track day guarantee , name someone else who gives that !!
I dont know who gives a warranty on discs, you may well be the only one. I'd have to check on that. FYI, I am going to Nogaro on Feb 8/9. Let me know if you want me to try your discs there ;) It's a former F1 track in South Western France...

Take care

Claudius

Godspeed Brakes 28 January 2003 11:57 AM

Claudius , I have also given you an explanation regarding the pad sizes , I will repeat - the first set of discs we did for the EVO we made to the size of the standard pads supplied with the car , the customer bought after market pads which had a bigger back plate to them which caused the pads to touch the bell , we knew that this could happen again so we changed our bell design so it wouldn't happen again , it has not .

Hopefully you can understand this and realise for yourself that this problem no longer exists ...

Give YOU a free pair of discs ... ok your a comedian now :)

Cheers Ian

Give YOU a free pair of discs ... ok your a comedian now
That's one way of looking at it.

And then there are others ;) which you dont seem to have considered...

BTW, I never said I wanted them free, just that I wouldnt pay up front and that I would pay for them after I couldnt warp them at Nogaro, which I will obviously try to do. If your discs are so good, what are you afraid of? That I wouldnt pay for them even if I couldnt warp them? Come on, be serious.

Looks like you dont think they are THAT good after all, do you?

Godspeed Brakes 28 January 2003 01:06 PM

Claudius , I don't need to prove my discs to you , I have many customers on this board that use my discs on the track , that's good enough advertising for me , Thanks , but no thanks , Ian

Claudius 29 January 2003 01:30 PM

How impressed do you think your potential customers are when they see you chicken out in front of me because I go to a high speed track?

You didnt answer my technical questions, btw....
