Difficult noise to explain but when breaking from slow speeds (stop start traffic, etc) I often get a click or cracking noise from what sounds like the fron wheels. Doesn't seem to affect braking performance. Don't want to make special trip to dealer (too far) - any ideas?

Cheers

It's quite common on nothing to worry about. My old AP 4 pots did this as well. Most commonly after reversing

I believe the pads can move away from the disc ever so slightly (probably being pushed out when you turn the wheel in reverse from lock to lock when parking), and the noise you hear is just them tapping back into place when you first press the pedal.

I have always got a clonk from the front on mine.
Also a wicked squeal.
Am waiting for the new(Apparently) anti squeal shims for the sti7 to turn up.

DAve.

Yup I also get the squeal. John's spot on - after a bit of reversing - next time you drive slowly forward and brake - quite a noise!!

Will mention squeal to dealer at next service.

Had some new front pads on my MY99 and now it is doing this all the time. :(

I asked the dealer about the clonking sound last week, and they said that it was normal and was nothing to worry about.

I also had squealing brakes pads which they replaced f.o.c but they still squeal, apparently you can have them replaced under warranty untill 10k miles and at approx £350 a set fitted it might be worth having them done anyway.
