Following on from my boost problem thread , I've found out some more.....

Re-gapped the plugs this weekend, not much difference....then decided as a last ditch attempt to read for any ECU error codes.

BINGO !! code 45 - pressure sensor / pressure exchange solenoid ?

Now the interesting bit...ever since I've had the car there's been a UBC (unidentified black cube!!) attached to what I now know is my pressure sensor (MAP sensor ?). It's been soldered in-line with two of the three wires coming from the sensor, and is definitely NOT factory fit....

What is it ???

Why is it there ??

....and more importantly, could this be the cause of my boost problems ?

PICTURES - circle shows cube, arrow shows where it's soldered...

my guess is some sort of resistor to try and get more boost ??

I believe that is a little gadget for upping your boost. It works by stopping the ECU seeing the true boost and relies on the MAF to control proper fuelling.
I havent seen one before, but a mate of mine was selling them and told me about it.
Then again I could be wrong.

Thanks for replying Beastie....

is it just a resistor then, or some sort of "black box" electronics...

more to the point, could it cause my boost problems (boosting in waves) and should I remove it ??

could it also cause any harm ???

worried now.... :(

any other ideas everyone ??

Yup...............as I thought....its the Borg

Don't worry.........I'm going, I'm going....

looks like a superchip or similar.

I have also a little black box that is connected together with the Unichip, it lies to the ECU so the unichip can up the boost over the regular max., with me it goes to 1.25bar.
Inside there are some microswitches and regulators, you can alter the voltage there and so control the boost.
Maybe your little black box is just broken...

ROTFLMAO at Saxo Boy.....!!!

if only....I'm sure some Borg implants would make things a whole lot better....

Seriously though, could it be malfunctioning and causing problems ?

Can I disconnect it safely ??

come on boys, someone must have one of those famous "in-depth" explanations....

Wally,

sorry, was posting same time as you....

do you mean that you have another box fitted near the ECU or just a chip fitted in the ECU ?

how could I tell if my ECU has been chipped ??

My unichip module is connected to the ECU inside the car on the pass. footwell, together with that famous black box. As I have a friend that can 'program' the Unichip, he told me that the blackbox controls the boost now.
When I turn the micro-screws the boost will go up, or down...
