MY99 - out of warranty

Nice bill in August for new gearbox along with loads of other odds and sods. Car has been driven hard but FSSH, always warmed up/cooled down blah blah

Spark plugs changed on Saturday to hopefully eradicate flat spot @ 4k revs (in hindsight maybe oil in boost thingy) and then all of a sudden runs like bag of sh1t , spluttering under 3k revs (feeling like running on 3 cylinders) then pulling relatively normally.

Initially thought an HT lead or plug damaged whilst replacing plugs (varying voltages reading across the leads etc )

Gave in and went into dealers this morning who has just phoned to say that there is no compression in cylinder 3 and will be Thursday before they can open it up

How many members of my family do I need to pimp out to pay bill ?

Can anyone in the know help with any probable causes and rough idea of foreseeable cost

Cheers in advance
Si

If it is out of warranty I strongly advise you NOT to let them open it up before they quote you for a worst case rebuild. You would probably find that a replacement engine is considerably cheaper. Suggest approach Townend garage re recon replacement if you want to stick with the standard engine.

Yes, do as John says. Dont let them open it. Once open, you cant take it anywhere else (unless you have friends who will help you push it ;)).

I'll help with the pushing if need be ;)

Many thanks John/Claudius

Kenny..... :p;)

Spoken to dealer who assures me:-

A)that it shouldn't  be too bad, as only one problem cylinder....

B)they will open it on Thurs and if it turns out to be worst case scenario then they'll glue it back together, but I can freely take it elsewhere.

John

If replacement engine needed will contact Townend as advised :)

Make sure they are not going to charge you labour for opening it.... expressly confirm this... because otherwise you could be stung like others have.

John... will be very clear with them :)

Thanks
