O.k guys I have today been greeted with an engine check light which showed me code 24 which is Idle Control Solenoid. The car MY93 WRX proceeded to then rev to 2500 rpm and then drop down to 1500 and then back up to 2500. Eventually the revs would come down to just under 1500 and the car would feel very very lumpy on tick over. At no time was I pressing the throttle pedal the car was seemingly revving up and down on its own..... Anyway whilst driving home after seeing the check engine light I found that upon stopping at a junction the car proceeded to then behave itself and the engine check light went out..... ? The cars revs now sit at 1200 (which I must admit is a bit high) but all seems to be o.k ?? I havent as yet connected the plugs to see if the code is still there but Should I source a replacement idle control solenoid ? and also I would be very interested in knowing how soon a MAF sensor can become faulty if changed for another - would a week sound reasonable ??

They should last more than a week... Symptoms sound like a MAF on the way out though.

Same Problem with my P1...

I came off throttle, and came to a holt, the revs dived down to ..well... 100rpm i reckon!!:-) it was bouncing up and down.. very embarassing in town, reving car..

the OxygenSensor went, the fault code was picked up and the part was replaced there and then.. Under warranty :-)

Before you do anything take the ISC (throttle control valve) off ... mark its position first, and make sure its clean and free to move inside, the valve part is attached to the inlet manifold and the motor part comes off, these have been known to stick.
