How much approximatly does it cost to get the underseal redone on a MY99 car?

Probably at a Dealer.

I will ask tomorrow - but would be good to know now what to expect ;)

Just been hosing-off underneath the rear wheelarches of my '99 wagon. The "underseal" (allegedely) is flaking off in great big chunks. I picked a piece up. It's less than 1mm thick - much less. I wasn't using a pressure washer, just a common-all-garden hosepipe. :eek: :( :(

I'll be looking into the costs, but should you find out, could you post me or email me??

I Paid 60-70quid about 18 months ago when I first got my typeR imported. So its not mega bucks.

My underseal started coming off when the car was a year old, it is a MY00. The garage that takes all my servicing money, Mill Lane Engineering, didnt want to know - tough luck they said.

Went to the supplying dealer, Simpsons of Swindon, they re-applied the underseal without hesitation - if Subaru UK dont re-pay us then we will happily pick up the tab was the response! Top Service!

Does the supplying dealer make more money out of you than the dealer who gets 3 years+ servicing out of you? I wouldnt have thought so - but the 'Customer Service' was like chalk and cheese.

Reapply it yourself I would guess - shouldnt cost you more than £10 and a few hours

Just re-read the above - so edited to say that in all other cases Mill Lane Engineering have been absolutely fine and offer good value overall!!

I did ask and they said about £160 or so, the materials were about £30 but it was the labour to take off the old stuff before they put the new stuff on, might get it done in the summer.

we charge £104.95 inc vat, but this does include cleaning the underneath thoroughly first!!

AF noble told me it would be around £100.

In order to keep the body warranty intact, you need to get this done at 1,5 and 5 years I think, mind you, when did you see a rusty Scoob????

I apologise for hijacking the thread but I have a "Netherlands" my02 bought from Well Lane Turbo.

No complaints about the service from Well Lane but wondered what underseal it might have ?? They don't half salt the roads here in Cumbria !!

If I poke underneath the wheel arches (much more difficeult since the eibachs---thanks TSL, great job) it seems be be covered in something a bit sticky.

Do I need to underseal the car ??

none of the cars have anything on them when they enter the UK, the underseal is done in this coulrty, therefore, if yours has a black gooey stuff under the arches, it's been done, you need do nothing, just rinse it of every now and then!
if it starts to peel, it mioght be worth getting it looked at then!

But why should the underseal be coming off?

Just smacks of being a bodge-job. What's the use of less than a millimetre of thickness?? A properly done job should be much thicker..........surely??

I've done the underseal thing to a few cars, trust me, if you tried to get it on thicker, it would just run off onto the floor, the stuff is very runny! You can't thicken it up, ptherwise you can't spray it!

Does the £120 you've been quoted cover the entire underside, or just the wheelarches??

dunno what bit inside the doors is... but its the full thing

On a car like the Scoob that is galvanised anyway, it only really needs doing when it's peeling off, however, in order to keep the body warranty you need to get it done by the dealer at 1,3 and 5 yrs old!

You must be mad to pay that at a dealer. I bought for our old landrover a tin of basic underseal from my local car acessorie shop. £7.15 ok it wasnt waxoil but it did a lovely job. It smelt like tar and was thick to put on, but the nack is to keep the stuff warm and it goes on easier. Under the arches of the jeep the original underseal had worn due to jet washing and you could see some overspray, the underseal went on and to be fair it looked marvelous. Still got half the tin, apparently i can seal a roof with it as well.
However i did have use of a hydrolic ramp which made the job so much easier.

I just got mine done undersealed and all moving components wax oiled. It cost me £100 which was ok as they removed the bumpers and trim to get into all properly.

Question for RON who posted above.

Are you *definitely* sure that Scoobs are made from galvanised steel?? I'd feel a lot happier knowing they were, rather than normal steel. That is, since I blasted all my underseal away at the weekend.
