£19995 for the slow one or £21995 for the 240ps fully specced up.
http://www.mazdarx8.co.uk/ Sounds like a bargain to me. |
look forward to see,n one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
High Power specification (177kW (240PS) @8200rpm with a 9000 rpm limit, 9000 rpm ..wow :)
I couldnt see if its front or rear wheel drive though ? ...rear i guess ?? Andy |
Yup, rear wheel drive... it's just the replacement for the RX-7. Should be a worthy opponent for the 350Z.

There were some pictures posted in NSR on Monday

Heard from Japan there'll be a new RX-7, so RX-8 is a completely separate line of cars.
|
Marty, not wanting to pi$$ on your fire, but the RX8 is NOT a replacement for the RX7. The 7's replacement is still on the drawing boards at present.
The RX8 IS the test bed for the new rotary engine, it also shares the same suspension setup as the Mazda 6. Tests out in the US have show that the RX8 handles better than an RX7, but is not as quick. It is designed for the sport(ish) saloon car market. Not the sports car market. Dan |
According to the Brochure from Mazda UK its got 250bhp
|
|
Yes.They open the opposite way to the front.
|
Hmmmm, AnDy likes
|
Rear doors opening backwards are known as "suicide doors" and were last seen on yank cars in the 60s (eg Lincoln Continental) after which they were banned... cos if you get hit by a car when opening your door to step out the car the impact of the vehilce behind hitting the door slams it shut cutting off whatevers sticking out the vehicle! Ouch. |
To make the door's legal they cannot be opened while the front doors are closed...so hopefully no one will get chopped in half!
Do you think people will buy a car with a rotary engine at any price!! Dom. |
Danny, sorry to light the fire again but the RX-8 is a replacement for the RX-7. In the same was that the S15 200sx was a replacement for the S13 and S14 despite the S13 still being in production. The RX-7 was Mazda's flagship sports car, now it's the RX-8. Sounds like a replacement to me. :D
|
Word from Japan is there'll be a new RX-7, with a turbocharged Wankel engine. Very logical as 250ps is rather meagre for a flagship sportscar.
As with the S13,S14 & S15; Nissan did replaced the S13 with the S14, but that was only for the S13 Silvia (not the S13 180SX/200SX/240SX), that's y the S13 180SX was sold parallel to the S14 Silvia. One must remember that Nissan used the S13 platform to produce both the Silvia & 180SX/200SX/240SX (which target different markets), & it is only export versions of the S14 & S15 are called 200SX (at home they're still Silvia). |
Well Im seriously considering ordering one.
My STi7 is a lardy 1485kg and 261bhp = 176 bhp/tonne RX8 is to be 1300kg and 237 bhp = 183 bhp/tonne Less weight is better than more power :D All the reviews I have read so far have been very good. Check out the review on the 4car website. http://www.channel4.com/apps26/4car/...1&reviewid=677 |
Those Mazdas are famed for their low kerb weight - the last of the RX-7s weighed under 1300kgs & have 280ps.
|
A mate has just ordered one for delivery in June. 240 bhp version of course ;)
Looking forward to seeing it - bet its going to look great on the road.... |
Mazda Rotary Club is trying to get Mazda at JAE with a stand, along with an RX8. So you should be able to climb all over it then.

I ordered one a few days ago. If you are interested they you'd better move fast - word is that there will only be 300 in the UK this year and c.450 per year thereafter.
My local dealer has taken eight deposits in the last week and doesn't even know when he's getting his demo car yet... |
The mags that state its a replacement have gotten it wrong, a new RX7 will be out in the near future, its an addition to their lineup.
I imagine it will be largely borrowed from the RX-8, but quicker. |
Marty, speak to Mazda or have a look on www.RotaryNews.com
Its well documented, that this is NOT a replacement for the RX7. Dan |
Double Post, removed.

Just to complete what I said....

Latest rumours confirm that work has begun on an RX-7 but has NOT been signed off yet so would probably take a couple of years at least.
Promising news is that it'll most likely use a 1.5L Renesis pushing out closer to 300bhp NA. Better still, they're aiming for kerb weight of 1000kg!!!!!!!!! That's near enough 300bhp/ton in a, likely to be, sub £30k car. |
That is the daddy, very tough looking. Must get one...
MB |
The RX-7 replacement is due around 2006, IF it goes in to production.
This depends largely on the success of the RX-8. Knight Sports in Jap. are the equivilent of Prodrive for Subaru, and they have been looking at bolting on a supercharer to the RX-8. :) Dan |
