I'm after a compaq laptop (1700-XL 485).

Where can I go to get the best deals?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the prompt response Dave but they don't seem to stock that model, http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif do you have any other suggestions?

Mo I work for a big Compaq reseller but am not familiar with this model number. Is it an Armada or a Presario. If its a Presario I think the current range is now the 1800 range. Presarios are focussed on the retails market such as Dixons, PC World Currys from my understanding.

I've checked the Compaq UK site and can't find this, is the a current UK model?

Having looked at a load of websites (US & UK), including 'just seconds', I ended up getting an ex-display model from Comet just down the road http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

Granted, only a relatively base model Toshiba Satellite (600mhz), but from an RRP of c1400ukp. Most stores had for between 900 and 1200ukp, I paid 550ukp http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif as long as I bought their 3 year no-quibble' new for old' warranty (230ukp) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Less than half price for the overall package - it pays to negotiate 5 minutes before closing on the last Saturday in the month http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Allan,

it's a Presario.

If you (or anyone else) has some other suggestions I would be interested.

It will be mainly used to run AutoCAD and databases so it must have 256mb RAM and a zip drive. I need the usual NIC and modem cards and needs to run Win 2000 pro. I don't want to be carrying around a breeze block!! This model weighs 2.5kgs which is what appeals and is just under £2k. We use Dell at work but these have had a high failure rate so that rules them out.

Anyother suggestions??

Thanks all.

Hi Mo
I got my laptop from here about a year ago.

Sent you email m8 as follows:

Have you looked at the Compaq professional series? These are the 2 that we use internally.

The m300 is the smallest and lightest, however screen is only 12.1"

Mo I'll email you from work tomorrow once I've sorted Puffs Compaq server quote.

Does it have to be a Compaq?

Thanks for your responses. I;ve now opted for a Vaio from jungle.com £100 cheaper than rrp plus a three year warrenty and next day delivery which is good as I had to get one by Thursday.
